ings, mouldings, arcadlng and screens.
Fneclal reference was made to the
beautiful choirs, that "of Faint
Hugh, with Its many wonderfully
carved oak stalls, portraying both seri
ous and grotesque subjects, and that of
the angel choir, rich In decorative work,
erected In the thirteenth century and
considered the most beautiful in Kng'and.
The cathedral Is also famous for Its shiln1
nf Faint Hugh and lis monument to tho
loved Queen KUnor of the thirteenth cen
tury. The next meeting will be held
January 17, with Mrs. Dollle Burgess as
leader. The topic will be "Westminster
Abbey."

Tho members; of the Fortnightly Thim

luncheon on Wednesday afternoon at the
homo of Mrs. Joseph Mlchener. Tho
occasion was tho annual Christmas party
of tho club and the decorations were ap
propriate to the season. Christmas games
were also greatly enjoyed. A dainty
three-course luncheon was served, and
waa followed by the annual exchange of
gifts, accomplished through tho medium
of a grab bag. Miss Velma Mlchener
gave several solo which were greatly
enjoyed by the guests. Mr. James Mul
holland, who la famed for her delicious
home-made candy, presented each guest
with a bo of her choicest brands. In
addition, to tha fifteen club members,
Mrs. Mlchener had as her guests Mrs. A.
L. Dermody of Omaha and Mrs. Charles
F. Davis of Paclflo Junction. The next
meeting of tho club will be held Decem
ber 2 at the home of Mrs. J. A. Kllllns,
Morningald avenue.
The Book Lover met Wednesday after
noon at the home of Mrs. A. P. Hanchett.

the completion of the atudy of George
Eliot which has occupied the club since
October and the program for the after

talk was a most Interesting summary of

Mrs. MacMurphy gave a most interest
ing talk with regard to the work of the
pure food commission, telling of the in
spection of the factories and dairy plant
and of the work of the Red Cross society
along the line of prevention of tuber
culosis, closely silled to the pure food
work. Mr. MacMurphy is now associated
with hte Alamito dairy and Invited the
women to vta.t the plant in Omaha or
the substation over here. The demon
stratlon of a "Three In One" salad mad
by Mrs. E. J. Towslee, followed Mra
MacMurphy'a talk. An Informal discus
sion of pure foods and the way In which
the buyer can assist In raising the stand'
ard of foods was also a feature of the
afternoon. Refreshments were aerved by
the hostesses, Mrs. Howe, Mra K. E.
Cook, Mra Bwanaorr and Mrs. Klnset, an
especially attractive feature being indi
vidual mince plea, with a miniature Santa
