Feat ares of the Trading: and Closing
Prlcea on Board of Trade.
CHICAGO, Dec. 1. Active buying, sup

buuui a snarp auvanca today In tliu
value of wheat. Peace talk led after
wards to something of a reaction, leaving
the market unsettled at the close, but
lc to lV-8'lHo net higher, with Decem

ing staples, too, all showed gain corn,

provision. 17c to 26c.
Although heavy deliveries on teeem
ber contracts caused the wheat market
to sag a little at the outset, prices soon
begun to ascend when the fact becaitD
evident that the deliveries had passed
Into strong hands. Lively purchasing
of futures here apparently to fill Euro

meanwhile to the bulls. Later on tho
upward awing of the market received
fresh Impetus from Winnipeg reports
that requisitioned wheat was being
loaned by the Canadian government to
shippers to fill contracts and that the
amounts loaned were to be returned as
quickly as possible.
In the last hour of trading, many spec

being Influenced by assertions that Oer
many and France had both formulated
to the pope possible term of peace. An
nouncement of the resignation of mem

Early advices from other market points
all indicated a lower market. A a re
suit, the trade here opened very slow
and dull, with buyers bidding sharply
lower on practically all kind, their bids
in many cases being 10c or more lower,
especially on cornleda. It waa late be
fore enough business had been trans

In the end beef steer, Blockers and

HOGS Shipping demand waa broad
again this nwrnlng. and while there was
another good run here, outsiders bought
almost as many hogs as they did on
Tuesday. Yesterday's packer slump, and
prospects of a fresh break today, put a
damper on the high prices that were
paid yesterday, but shipper buyers only
asked fry 10c reduction, whore killers
were bidding 16c down, and the result
was that most anything that could be
used for shipping purposes had been
cashed In good season. Prices paid by
shippers ranged largely around $6.3tnj 36,
with a scattering at $6 4u and tops up to
$6.46. A sprinkling of the, later shipping
purchases was bought at $4.26.
General market waa a full dime lower
than yeaterday. Moat of the packers'
purchases landed at $6.20826. with a
few as high at $.. which puts the bulk
of all the sales at H.3oni.l6. There was
quite a sprinkling of light hogs down
ward towards xo.uu, receipts inciuaing
oulte a percentage of this sort of stuff.
Good weighty hogs art also coining In
fair numbers, but weight la wanted by all
buyers. Of course choice butchers are
bringing tops.

PHEEP There was a good Wednaaday
run of sheep and lamba hare for thla time
of year, estimates calling for seventy
nine cars, or 19,000 head Total arrivals
loi the flrat half of the week are 46.&U,
being 17,000 larger than laat week and
6.MX1 heavier than last year, but smaller
than two weeks ago by over 7,0 head.
I at lamb trade opened out pretty dull,
and while here and there a sale was made
during the early part of the forenoon that
looked close to steady, loc lower offers
were the rule on the bulk of the offer
ings Choice handy weight fed weatern
lambs looked pretty close to steady with
Tuesday. Muttons moved fairly freely
on about a steady baala. Another cut of
Tuesday's to. 75 ewes brought the same
price today, while the kind that sold al
0116. was easily steady.
Still later a three-car string of choice
Montana ewe, the beat that have been
here in a long time, sold at 16-90. the
highest price paid since October.
Later fat lamb trading was dona barely
on a 10c lower baala and In spots sales
were quoted UKB 16c off. Late reports from
Chicago showed more ot a slump than
was exacted and the extreme close here
was pretty stow, with soma lambs still
unsold at noon. Bulk of the good lamb
waa bought around $8 tinii.G, with fair
to decent stuff down lo $6.40, and on
bunh that while fslrly fleshy lacked a
good deal of being fal went at te.26.
Feeder trade proved to be a vety uneven
deal. As has been said right along, there
ia atlll a good call for the tight lamba.
and a fair demand for good quality of
medium welghta. Some of these latter
sold this morning at $6.1V44., while a
six-car string of light Montanas put a
top of $.4o on the trad. Trad on the
leas desirable kinds was sticky, however,
and at midday little hiislnr had been
