result of re porta that foreigners were
actlv buyers and because of substantial
protrresa asserted to have been made In
negotiations for th Anglo-French billion
dollar loan. Prices closed buoyant at
l4c to 2o net advance, with December

sained a shade to Vtio and oats He to

It was not until wheat had suffered a
material decline that the market began
to display tendency toward a decided
upward swing. Better weather conditions
for threshing and shipping the sntiny
crop had given th bears a temporary ad
vantage, but the effect d'rappeared when
gossip waa heard that Kuropeans were
purchasing at rather lively rate, both
cash wheat and future deliveries. Op
timistlo rumors In regard to Improved
chances of success for the billion dollar
loan and as to ths uss of much of the
proceeds In buying American products
other than war munitions led afterward
to a rreat Increase of bullish sentiment
and to an uninterrupted advance during
the rest of the day,
September wheat felt the tightening of
prices more severely than was the case
regarding: other options. Th reason was
that there seemed to be no limit to the
demand for track lota of wheat available
for spot delivery, and that aniva'.s here
remained unusually small for this reason
of the year. Th aotua amount of rash
contract wheat in store lu Chicago today
was only 24.000 buahela.
Corn waa helped upward by the strength
f wheat. At first, however, the market
was easy, owing to the warmer tempera
tutss prevailing. In the oats trade, wet
weather delaying threshing and shipping
was a source of firmness as soon as oihor
oerwals turned, upgrade. Country offer
ings were amalL
Provisions went lower In sympathy with
a decline In the hog market. Announce
ment that th Britlah government had
confiscated most of the long-interned
cargoes of meats and lard had no ap
parent effect upon the market here.

four days the run amounts to 11,84 head,
being 1,000 smaller than a week ago, but
1.600 larger than two weeks ago and more
than 10,M heavier than a year ago. So
far this week the supply has been run
ning nearly double the corresponding week
of last year.
Trade opened out in very fair shape,
both packers and shippers wanting ths
good light and butuher weight hogs at
steady prices. Packers paid as high aa
17.46, ths dav'g ton, for good even butcher
weight stuff. Current shipping values
may be Just a little easier than the prices
paid on Isst week's close, but on the
whole good lights are selling nearly as
well as they were last Saturday.
The packer market opened about steady,
but buyers were picking their hoga care
fully, and aa a general thing would not
take tiie rought weighty stuff,
