CHICAGO. Sept. 10. Wheat made a
sharp advance today, influenced chiefly
bv the virtual exhaustion of contrast
stocks here and st some other leading
centers. The market closed strong, l0
to 4io net higher with Iffeptember at
Ktie. ana rcetnber at Wc. Vorn fin
lahed Oo to Vl'io up, and oatg with
a gain of NO to hrn. In provisions, the
outcome varied from Sc decline of a rise
of lSHo.
High premiums for Immediate delivery
of wheat caused general covering' by
shorts, and especially in the Peptember
options. . The extreme scarcitv of No, 1
red wlater, here, was shown by the pay
ment of 140 a buahel premium for that
grade on the spot as compared with or
dinary Beptember contracts. Rt- Louis
and Kanaaa City reported similar condi
tions as the result of what a well known
authority referred to as the most extra
ordinary - delay ever recorded as to the
movement of winter wheat. Heavy rains
which have Interferred with threshing
and shipping and which were atpUn pre
valent today, le to assertions that not
for several months If at alt this season,
would thera be any big accumulations
or winter wheat at the principal primary
marketa.
Notwithstanding further talk of the
slowness of export demand, belief was
eaurvsard In aoiue quarters that mors
bualncra with foreigners were being; done

day. Th weekly statement of exports
was mentioned as evidence In this re
uiM't. No actual aalea to Fiirpoe were
disclosed today excent (0 bushels of
Manitoba wheat at the svaboard.
Corn ruled firm with whent and as
result of cooler weather with some re
ports of frost. At one time, the msrket
wss depressed by rather lively oommli
slon bouse selling, hut the erect failed
to last. Oats were firm throughout the
