Even before the National rower Farm ing demonstrations were held there, Fre mont had an enviable reputation through out the stain of JSuhraiik t. E'ery one who had heard of Frtimont knew that U was one of the mo beautiful snd pleasant places In Nebraska in which to live and a good town In uhlili to do busi ness. The only thing that was nectisxury to place Fremont on the world's mop was to spread It good reputation. The tlrst step came when Mayor WoU and other prominent Fremont citlaena started adverUsing the city aa a Lincoln highway town. As soon as tho coast-to-coast tourists got to speeding through Fremont they began to spread the good reputation It had already gnined. Tho g-ueets at the earlier tractor demonstra tions took up the good work, until now the name of Fremont Is known In the far corners of the earth. At the first power farming demonstra tion Frof. Otorge K. Condra of the Ne braska conservation and soil survey had his moving picture man there aud took tome excelleut pictures of the big ma chines at work. Lat year he had them there ugaln. These pictures were) dis played aX scores of county fairs through out the state and at the Nebraska state fair, and attracted a great deal of at tention and comment- For the last three years the Illus trated weeklies, the dally papers, Im plement and machinery trado journals and larm papers have welcomed theso demonstrations as new material of In terest to their readers and have feat ured thern prominently In their columns, -with numerous pictures. 1 icing the first of their kind in this or any other coun try, the Fremont demonstrations have received an astonishing amount of pub licity. Last winter a Nebraska man was trav eling In 11 rax 11. Aa the train rolled along Tie looked languidly out upon the land scape, noting; the level plains) starred with advcrtiblne hill boards, just as ' they are in this country. Suddenly he was electrified to see the name of Fre mont staring him in the face from one of these bill boards. There, In big letters, all along tho route, he saw advertise ment after advertisement of a tractor, with the , statement, "This machine at tracted much attention at the Fremont denionstratlou last summer.'' During the last winter the Scientlfio American received a letter from Hol land, requesting Information concerning a tractor pictured in Its columns in the write-up of the national power farming demonstration at Fremont the preced ing summer. Without doubt these re ports of the demonstration were widely read in European countries) and would have elicited many such inquiries had not the various countries been so occu pied with tljo war that scientific agrl. culture has met wth a temporary check, V. K.- Deamukh, an agricultural en gineer representing the Central India Agricultural and Engineering associa tion of Ehujatilpur, was a guest at the 11(11 demonstration. He had come all the way from India to learn, in the beit place possible for acquiring such knowledge, what could bo learned about the tractor. Ills association is an edu cational one. seeking to acquire and dis seminate among the people knowledge of modern scientlfio methods of agri culture in a country In which farming U at present in a most primitive stage ot. development. A study of modern methods of agriculture is Incomplete un less It includes a study of the tractor aa power, and properly to pursue this branch of study necessitates . a trip to Fremont during the demonstrations. One of tho tractors entered in the 131S demonstration was sent to Fremont from Cleveland, O., under Its own power. The tractor, loaded with supplies, tore among other signs, a big placard read ing "Cleveland to Fremont," nnd the outfit attracted much attention on the country roads and was surrounded by big crowds In every city, town and vil lage through which it passed. There was a time not many years ago . when it was necessary to add "Ne braska" when mentioning th9 town ot Fremont. Otherwise some one might think you :noant the Fremont In Ala bama, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa. Kansas Michigan, Missouri. New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah or Wisconsin. Now no ono thinks of ny of these Fremont when the word Is spoken, except possibly people who live In or close to one of them. Fre mont suggests Nebraska at once, and the big crowds, good times and pros perity that attend the national power farming demonstrations, and believe us, Fremont is just the kind of town that will take advantage of having been Placed on the world's map and will keep there from now on and make Itself felt in the business world. Situated on the main transrentinental line of the Union Pacific railway, it has frequent and swift trains to all points oast and west Fremont has twenty trains a day to Omaha and there are fourteen trains every day between Fre mont and Chicago: twelve between Fre mont and Kansas City; nine between Fre mont and Denver and other Colorado points; seven trains between Fremont and Cheyenne, and ao on. The Union Parlflo line la double tracked to the west and to the east and at the west It affords outlets for Fremont shipments, and all others over the Ore gon & Washington railroad, the Oregon Short Line and the Southern Pacific sys tem with their numerous branches. Fremont la located also on the main line of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad, of which It la the big Nebraska center. This Una covers North and South Da kota and Wyoming and makea connec tions at Superior, Kan., with the Hanta the Union Pacific, stops there and the In Fe system to the wide southwest. Fre mont shippers and manufacturers are covering this country through to the roast. The Chicago, Burlington Qulncy has built through Fremont In more recent years, Its new Ashland to Sioux City connection with the Great Northern sys tem running- through Fremont where It also has a handsome passenger station and freight depot This gives Fremont direct shipping facilities to all points on these two vast systems of railroad. It Is an Inspiring sight' especially at night, to see the mighty freight levia thans of the rail rnortliut and chugging and rumbling out over the Union Pacifio line, "double-headers" many of them, pulling a hundred cars. And the great passenger trains of twelve to eighteen cars, coming In, pausing for a moment lmpatlontly and then disappearing wlftly along that S.OOO-mlle highway! The freight butlnees of Fremont itself amounted, In the year 1914, to 12,797 whole Carloads, this nelng In addition to the leaa-tlian-carload shipments, which alone came to 76,206,266 pound a Among the outgoing carload shipments were 1.2&6 care of wheat 401 cars rf com, 396 of grain products, 116 of live stock arid 2,243 miscellaneous. Freight revenue from Fremont In creased 121,872 In 1914 over 1912. Passenger revenues Increased 120,144 for the same respective periods. Twisted Sibilants.
