Rodger to Clnpy.
The Boston club ha sold Second Base
man Bill Rodger, the Portland recruit,
to the Cincinnati club.
One hundred and twenty-nine hour
and fifty-one minute is tha time made
by a roadster from New York to Omaha.
With H. F. Alexander and I. S. Huber
as alternating drivers the car has bucked
mud most of the way, and has pulled,
into Omaha with everything ln goo
shape, and with a fighting chance, even
wtth the mud to contend with, to lower
the transcontinental auto record.
The car left New York at 12:0 a. m.
last Friday, and was ln Pittsburgh at
5 o'clock that afternoon, a distance of
295 miles. Then the roads became worse,
and after staying all night In Beaver
Falls, I'enn., they made Fort Wayne,
Ind., by 1 o'clock Saturday night. With
three hours' sleep they started for the
west, but had their spare tires stolen,
and had to wait nineteen hours tn Au
rora, 111., for new ones. They left Au
rora at noon Monday, and began a serle
of troubles. Several times they wer
stuck ln the mud ln Illinois, and In
Iowa they were stuck twelve times, th
last being near Manning, where they
had to stay all Tuesday night. They
had driven without rest from Monday
noon until they struck the Manning mud
hole, when they were so tired out that
they slept In the car, and were pulled
out of tho mud in the morning. They
arrived In Omaha at 10 o'clock, and left
at 2:30 over the Military road.
They are trying to make Sun Fran
cisco in ten days, from New York, but
are over a day behind their schedules, oi
account of the delay in Aurora, and th
mud holes they struck.
