CHICAGO GRsIN AND PROVISIONS
Featerea of the Tradlgg an Cloalag
Prlcee em Board of Trade.
CHICAGO. July U. Black rust report,
from the Dakota and Minnesota today
quickly turned the wheat market from
weakness to strength. The result was a
firm close at lHc to 2o net advance.
Corn wound up unchanged to He higher
and oats with a gain of SB to a. In
provisions the outcome was a rise- of
6 to 2?o.
At first the black rust news met with
Incredulity. Wheat traders, however,
quickly woke up when the reports were
confirmed from the Mouth Dakota Agri
cultural college, and it waa' stated the
conditions were exaotly the kind to pro
mote a spread of the plague. Almost
simultaneously the fact developed that
exporters were buying much more freely
than has recently been the case.
Throughout the rest of the session
prlcee continued on the upgrade with an
urgent general demand headed by a big
rush of shorts, knowing tlie crop Infeo
tlon appeared as yet to be restricted to
Juxt a few points. ,
Pressure from receiving houses Indi
cating hedging Sales from' the harvest
districts of Illinois and other regions
nearby was chiefly respqonsible for the
heaviness of the wheat market before the
black rust scare began. Even after the
market ag a whole wag scoring an ad
vance, the July option showed less vigor
than the later deliveries. When trading
was at a stand the greater part of pre
mium for cash wheat here, as compared
with July, had disappeared.
Good weather tended to make corn
relatively easy. The strength of wheat,
however, finally had a bullish effect.
Oats moved up more readily than com.
Decreasing stocks acted as more than an
offset for favorable advices regarding the
crop.
Provision sympathised with 'grain.
Compared with the last few days the
volume of offering decreased to a not
able extent.
