Lincoln Once More(
Is Agitating Union
Depot Proposition
I'From a Ptaff Correspondent.)
LINCOLN, May ft. (Spcla1.)-Uncoln
i again agitating the proposition of
union depot. Whenever thing get dull
and there I nothing uls much to tak
up, th publlo mind, somebody take his
pen in hand and write out a petition
calling for a union depot and tho think
I signed up full In short order.
Thl Urn, however, tho traveling- men
hav started th propoaltlon and tn th
apse of half a day had thnma of
600 of the city' bustnesi men attached
to th petition. About two years ago
the propoaltlon cam very nearly going
through, but th Rock Island blocked th
deal, because they did not deslr to leav
th manufacturing firms, Which had
built their place of buslne mar Its;
track without railroad.
Should a union depot bo built, it would
naturally b very oloae to tho present
Burlington station. TM would leava
th .business interest, which have built
up In th aat part of th city without
railroad trackage and would necessitate
their moving a mil to a naw tooatlon
or hauling all their good that distance.
With thla proposition facing th scheine
tt la tho opinion of many that a. union
depot will never bo rectd that wilt
tak tn tho Rock Island. ' -
