JOSIES COP GAME
IN THEJLEYENTH
JLourkes Pass Up Several Opportuni
ties to Win by BatheT Ragged
Base Banning.
STILL LEAD LOOP, HOWEVER
Th Rourk machine tupped a cor 7
terday and th lowly Drummer from
St. Joseph copped a win from our ath
letes, to 8. after eleven Inning of
rather ragged baa ball, but It matter
not fat the per cent re column, for tbe
obliging OrlMllea turned a trick or two
In Wichita and the Kan town waa
trimmed, thua leaving Omaha etlll lurched
t the top of the ladder.
The Josh tried hard to give the game
to our alda several time, but Mai-ty'
athlete were not Inclined to take ad
vantage, of the proffered gift. Paul
tBrown passed out aeren awata, six walks
and hla mates added nine miscue to the
offering. On four distinct occaslona
'Hourke runner were nipped rambling
promiscuously around th runway with
out any apparent asps or direction or
purpose. -
Burney Everdon tolled nine rounds for
Omaha and pitched fairly steady ball,
eKpeclally considering It was his first
effort this year and he was still nursing
a flock of boils on the back of his neck.
Burner had swell control, allowed nary
a walk and kept the hits pretty well
scattered. He expired in the ninth to
lot Cy Forsythe bat for him. and Frank
lin Johnson went In to get credit for
tHe loss.
Patterson Tarns the Trlelc
A blow by Manager Ham Patterson did
the work In the fatal eleventh. Fox beat
out an infield hit and was sacrificed to
second by Watson. Here Patterson In
jected hi only hit mto the matinee and
it sufficed to ruin the Rourkes.
, Omaha got the Jump on the Invading
battalion In the second stanza, but the
lead was short-lived. Thomason was
given a walk to start the festivities, and
Huelsman laid down a neat sacrifice.
Brown pegged wildly to second to catch
Tommy there ' and the ball rolled Into
conterfield. while Tommy hied his littla
self to third. Krueger lifter a sacrifice
fly to Fox. .giving Thomason oodles, of
time In which to mark.
Three , blows In the fourth put tho
Joales one to the" good. Brltton beat out
an infield hit and went to second on
"WSUlltfrns" drive to right. Both men
traveled an extra base wVen Huelsman
foosled the ball a moment O'Day's sin
gle to center registered both men.
nonrkes Coant Two.
, When Breen deceased In the sixth Krug
caught slant for a hit to right, and
went to third on Thomason' poke to
tho same garden. Tommy was nipped
trying to take second when the ball was
to catch Kruk. Huelsman was dellber
ately walked and he stole second. Krueger
slammed a line drive to left, counting the
manager and Huelsman. . Krueger went
to third when the pill trickled through
Fox, but Schllebner made th third out,
, ndlng th rally. , .nj,
' Pass Vm Cac la Tenth
- -That waa J for the Rourkes, although
the bases were choked in the eighth, and
a fin chance to count occurred In- th
tenth. j The tenth waa the saddest round
of the quarrel from a' home standpoint.
Hulsman was safe on Willie Patterson'
error, and. . waa forced by Krueger.
Schllebner and Krueger wereboth safo
on Willie's second fooxle,' and ' Whalen .
drove a beaut of a hit to center.' Krueger
stopped to watch the progress1 of the ball
and was, as a result, cut down at the
plate by Williams. v Bohllebner went to
third In the interim, and then was caught
napping off that bag by Wlthrow, mak
ing a double play that should never have
been accomplished.
Brltton opened the seventh with a hit
" for the h03tlles. s Williams doubled but
Brltton was caught at the plate trying
to score. William went to third on the
Hay. He counted on ODays blow. Then
' vsme the 'fatal eleventh and the winning
marker for tho Joetown athlete. '
Whalen Plays Cireat Game.
Red Whalen played a great game at
short. ' He made three hits and several
sensational stops at short. Smith made
a great running catch of what looked
like a three-bagger from the bat of Fox
in the third. ' , .. .'
Today Tom Blodgett, the hero of tho
opening combat, will toll on the mound
for Omaha. Cy Forsyth will also be
seen cavorting about one of the outfields.
The game today will be called at S
o'clock. Score: .
