first appearance In the atate bowling
tournament lent night and proceeded
to rarry off all the honors. The Stors
team Jumped Into the lead of the five
man team events w'th a score of 2,M.
with the Fords of Lincoln second with
2.M5. and the Jetters of Omaha third with
2.6S.
Cochran and K. Prlple of the Btora
team took the Irsd In the doubles with
1,165 pins, with HeJser and Zimmerman
a close second with US pins. Mlllson
and Ftempke of Lincoln, the previous
leader, were shoved Into third place.
Zarp of the Jotters scored 893 pins down
for the leadership of the singles, while
Cochran captured second place with 1
pins. 'Whlsenand of Itaatlnis. the nre-
vlous singles leader, was shoved Into
third place.

To Catch the First
Ball at St. Joseph
Mayor James C. Dahlman has received
an invitation from the St Joseph Booster
club to attend the opening game In St.
Joseph April 23, when the Drummers
and Rourkes lock horns. Tha invitation
asks that Dahlman be prepared to don
large mitt, protector and mask and catch
the first pill pitched as heaved by Bitot
Marshall, mayor of St Joseph. The
mayor will probably accept the invita
tion unless other business prevents.

In Illinois Senate

bill was Introduced today 'in the senate.
The measure would legalise racing In Illi
nois and would create a state racing com
mission to be composed of three members
of the State Highway commission, the
president of the highway commission to
be chairman of the racing commission.
Tho commission would have charge of all
race meets, a percentage of which would
go to the state.

Darling team of fourteen malamutea,
driven by A. A. "Scotty" Allan, still was
leading today In the 413-mile all-Alaska
sweepstskes dog team race, having driven
Into Camp Haven', 146 miles from Nome
and only sixty miles from ths turning
point at Candle, one hour and four min
utes ahead of Eskimo John, the native
driving the twelve dogs entered by ths
Council Kennel club. Allan's time to
Havon was twenty -two hours. The trail
is heavy and slow, but the weather is
clear.

LONDON. April Ifi. Two Zeppe
lin airships visited the east coast of
RnRland shortly after midnight, drop
ping bombs on several towns, doing
considerable daniane to property. As
far as has been ascertained only on
person, a woman, was Injured. It Is
said ahe was only slightly hurt.
The airships dropped four bombs on
Maldon, in Essex county, thirty miles
east of London, but no damage re
sulted. Bombs also were dropped In
the Herbrldge basin, two miles across
the river. These set fire to aome
buildings.
The airships came up the Black-
water river and over the marshes and
circled.
Lumber Yard Fired.
At Lowestoft, on the North Sea, In
Suffolk county. three bombs were
dropped, considerable damage result
Ing to house property In the center
of the town. A lumber yard was set
on fire. The window panes in many
houses were shattered. Three horses
belonging to the railway company
were killed.
Previously the aircraft had visited
Rnnthwold. twelve miles south of
Lowestoft, and having missed atrik
ing that town with its missiles went
on to Halesworth, eight miles inland.
It then returned again to Southwold
and dropped six bombs.

over Harwich In the direction of Felix
towe. It is said now that a duscn bombs
were dropped In Maldon, but that only
one building, a workshop In the London
road, wss struck.
Anti-aircraft guns were heard during
the nlrht at Oravesend and Sheernees.
The authorities bad ample warning of
the air raid, as Dutch telegrams reported
that Zeppelins were coming aoross the
sea in the direction of England. Notices
were sent to the police authoritlea of
some of the east and south coast towns
of possible aerial visits. These notices
enabled the usual precautions to forestall
air attacks to be taken In towns ana vit
Ingres.

The central committee of the A. O. TJ.
W. has enthusiastically endersed the
Auditorium purchase bonds for the city,
and the members of the committee have
pledged themselves to work personally
for the carrying of the bond issue at the
polls In May. K. V. Parrish, manager of
the bureau of publicity went before the
committee at the meeting last night at
A. O. U. W. hall and explained the propo
sition to them, namely that the Audi
torium can now be purchased by the
city for the actual Indebtedness of the
property, which ts $150,000 In round num
bers.
Mr. Parrlah also went before the
socialists at a meeting Wednesday night
and talked to them about ths proposi
tion, explaining that the city needs the
Auditorium as a place to hold the larger
conventions, the trade shows and the
larger gatherings of a seml-publlo nature
as well as seme of the large publlo or
seml-publlc functions occasionally staged
by public-spirited cltlzons. The social
ists endorsed the proposed bond Issue
unanimously.
If the fl50.ona bonds are voted and the
Auditorium purohased at that it Is as
serted not a cent of the money will go
to any stockholder of the company, as
that sum will merely pay the outstand
ing Indebtedness of the company Instead
of yielding a given percentage on the
dollar originally Invested by the com
pany to build It Every dollar's worth
of stock Issued, it la stated, has been
wiped out, and the Issue originally was
J170.000.
The 1 150,0u0 to be voted. Is then to be
used only to pay outstanding Indebted
ness, which Includes first mortgage bonds
of 160,000, second mortgage bonds of 247,090,
and back Interest, book and ether debts
outstanding, back tax Item and penary
of nearly 216,000 and other items which
taken In the aggregate mount up to ap
proximately 21CO.0O0.

of Trade building tonight did damage es

After a two hours' battle the flames
were brought under control. The West,
ern Union offices and equipment are a
total loss. The Postal Telegraph com
pany lost two cables, but Its service was
cot seriously Interrupted.
When the general alarm sounded the
