HEW YORK STOCK MARKET,
Trading in Secnritiei on Exchange
Eclipif 1 All Record in Point
of Volume.
PAMCKY FEELING IS THE CAUSE
XKW YORK. March Sl -Trar!lng In se
curities today eclipsed all record In
point of volume since the cloning dav
of last July when the market was
churned Into a state of furloua activity
at declining prlcea because of panbky
feeling engendered by the foreign altus
tlon. There were signs In the cour.e of
tortsy's seaKlon. however, that absorption
of high-grsde Investment issues had about
reached the limit of It capacity for a
time.
Over 0 per cent of the total output wsa
limited to specialties and the common
stock of the Chicago, Bock Island ft Pa
cific railway. Motor and equipment la-'
sue and othera far more obscure con
tributed an unusually large quota.
Vhtle these stocks were changing hsnns
In blocks of l.oW) or more shares, I'nlted
State Hteel, Amalgamated Copper. Head
ing and the transcontinental, rsllers were
lagging behind. In fact, liquidation of
these Issues was plainly evident. This
was accepted aa proof that Inxlders and
conservative Investors had determined to
withdraw their commitments pending' a
restoration of more normal market con
dition!.
The further rise In Rock Island was
again without explanation, hui. bore all
the marks of an oen content with the
annual meeting, which Is to J held April
ii. nemienem teei, wnicn naa recenjiy
been the source of much speculation and
conjecture, was heavy at all tlraea. re
cording a net loes of two points. The
market'a tone at the rinse waa Irregular,
a number of standard ehares selling un

neneral financial news deslt mainly
with the 'question of additional foreign
loans. Improvement In the steel trsde.
chiefly as a result of further large orders
placed by Kmr"in governments, snd
some more railroad alateroenta for Feb
ruary, Northern Pacific showing a net

Total aalea of storks amounted to 74VO)

Hoixl were active, strong and brosd,
with total sales, par value, of 4.S2X,0O0.
United States bonds were unchanged on
call.
After the close of the market announce,
ment was made of the aliolitlon of all
minimum prices which have been In force
