SEATTLE, Waah. March Four per
sona were drowned in ,the Duwamlah
river late today when an automobile be
longing to Mrs. Morgan J. Carkeek ran
off a bridge at Allenterwn, ten mile
south of Beat tie. All in the car except
Mrs. Carkeek and her Japa.iese chauffeur
lost their lives.

Margaret Lenora Denny and Mrs.. Har
riet Foster Beecher, an i artist, were
killed.
The parly, a delegation -from the Seattle
Historical society, was going to Tacoma
to inspeet the exhibit of the state his
torical society there.
The chauffeur. Paul Kanla, applied the
brakes suddenly aa the car ran onto the
slippers approach to the bridge... The
automobile akldded, crashed through the
railing snd turned a complete somer
sault as It fell thirty feet to the river
below. The four who were drowned were
caught in the wreckage of the car.
The chauffeur lumped clear as the
automobile fell and swam safely to shore.
Mrs. Carkeek also succeeded In getting
dear of the wreckage and took refuge
on top of tha car, where aha stood waist
deep In the water-until rescuers cam, to
