The Duteh government has been one of
the leading buyers of wheat during the
last few days. Due to this and the fact
that Italy may enter the war at any time
the market has a bullish tendency.
Many of the larger houses on the

been killed there by alternate f reeling

CHICAGO. March fa Assertions that a
change of uollcv had seemingly prevented
until May. if not altogether, the entrance
of Italy into the war did a good deal to
day to lift the price of wheat. The mar
ket closed strong, lo to lc above last
night. Corn wound up with a gain of, ,vs
to Vi!3c and oats unchanged to Ho
higher. In provisions the outcome was a
li!V4c decline to a rise of a shade, There
were signs that foreign demand for cash
wheat had again been enlarged. Esti
mates on the Argentine exportable sur
plus showed a big cut and Liverpool sent
word that stocks were decreasing. For
the most part reactions from the advance
here turned out brief and of a profit
taking nature.
Strongest prices of the day In wheat
came in the last hour. On top of the
cable news complaints piled up from Illi
nois and Missouri that dry, cold weather
was hurting the winter crop. A compre
hensive report indicating that the winter
killed area, waa small and that the con
dition of the plant throughout the coun
try as a whole averaged better than In
December last had only a transient ef
fect on the market. Corn mounted with
wheat and as a. result of a material Im
provement In rash demand, due largely
to rough weather.' There were also
rumors of export business. Adverse con
ditions for seeding tended to make oats
firm. Seaboard call, however, was disap
pointing. Selling by packers offset all chance of
Sunday.
