Killing ratlin, that is beef steers, cows
and heifers were In very fair demand
this morning and the market opened In
reasonable senson with prices steady on
the less desirable kinds and fully inn
higher on the kind of cattle, that buyers
speolally wanted. Cows and heifers
showed the same advance, desirable
kinds being around 10c higher than yes
terday. Inferior kinds of butcher stock
were at least steady.
Blockers and feeders have tieen coming
In most too rapidly this week. While
there has been a reasonable demand It
has not been equal to the receipts, with
the result that prices were not only lower
yesterday but wenk to 10c lower again
today. For the last two days the market

cVurKi' lhcie was no
fact this morning that
wanted some good killing lambs of handy
weight, as they commenced business at
an early hour and paid prices steady to a
dime higher. This took place In spile of
the fact that the supply of lamba was
tully normal for a Tuesday, the active
trade and improved prices being attribu
ted largely to a big Improvement In the
quality of the offerings. Uood lambs,
weighing HI to H pounds, were most
sought after, though sellers had little
trouble In disposing of th heavier grade
providing thty were at all suitable for
killing purposes The range of prices was
mainly st $x.JtfX.M0, with a load of Ne
braska fed weaterna selling up to $8.70,
Pew If any feeder grades were available.
Conditions surrounding the trad In
aged aheep were pretty much the same
as on Monday, the supply being fairly
normal, consisting for tha most part of
ewes. The quality was practically tha
same, with th prices steady. Ewes. Ilka
some at $fl.7ti on Monday, brought Iden
tically the same price today. Th mar
ket was- active and most everything was
weighed up at an early hour.
For the day receipts amounted td $.600
head, against ,497 last Tueaday, $,214
two weeks ago and $.&4 a year ago. Mon
day and Tuesday's receipts together foot
up 17.107, compared with 9.467 last week
snd 21,331 for the same time laat year.
The offerings consist mostly of fed west
erns from Nebraska. Iowa, Colorado and
wheat field grades from Utah and Idaho.

NEW YORK. Doc, 29. Mora than at
any time since the renewal of business:
on the stock exchange, today's market
was governed by conditions having their
outgrowth in the foreign war. Tne rep
resentations made by th dmlnstj-atlort
to England, arotestlng against further
detention of American marine commerce,
caused an abrupt halt In the advance In

general opinion seemed to b that a new

Another decline in exchange on London
to the lowest price in almost sixteen
