CATTLK Receipts were not very heavy
this morning, either here or at any
market points, but tliov were plenty
large enough to meet the requirements
of the trade. As noted before in those
columns the demand lor beef Is always
limited at all market polvte during the
holiday Beacon. No one Is looking for
an thing like a brisk demand for cattle
until after January 1.
The few beef steers here this morning
moved slowiy at pr.ces that were cer
tuinly no better than steady and If any
thing a little lower than yesterday, esiie
Maily on the close. The best beeves
here were good enough to bring $X.6j,
there being nothing good In sight.
Cows and heifers generally commanded
good steady prices, but the market
closed weak.
There were not enough storkers or
feeders to cut much figure In the trade

lost week of 2,000 ami 20,000 larger than a
year ago. The fact that the Christmas
holiday enmn on Thursday last year Is
partly responsible for the big gain noted.

ment to the Christmas trade, which,
though less in volume than last year, baa
been much more activa than appeared
