According to an estimate, there Is still .0ii.0iW bushels of wheat in Kansas, which -will come out sooner or later. In a talk with this old-time grain man he said Kansas City still had ,i0.ono bush els of wheat and that the owners there would be pleasod to sell It. That the big surplus In Kansas is mainly In the hands of growers and that It Is generally be lieved the present price of this grain Is satisfactory to farmers and they are will ing to sell It, Is his ststement. It would be a difficult matter to esti mate the amount of wheat to chsnge hands In all positions yesterday, but a total of possibly 1,000,000 bushels would not he too Urge. It Is claimed there were sales yesterday of 600,000 bushels for export and the seaboard reported 2f0.t00 biif.hels, and St. Uvuls and Kansas City advices told ff some business In those markets on foreign account The wheat market wns narrow, but nervous yesterday. . December was c higher, while May waa nearly c lower. It was a market where apeculatlon was small and mainly between professionals. t'orn failed to hold up In price, even with unfavorable weather for husking and moving that grain, and resting spots for the day were Mi'Hc lower. Losses were shown of VtfHc In oats and the volume of trado was again quite small and price changes were narrow. Provisions closed strong and t frac tional advances. There was some selling by stock yards speculators and a few packers were on that side. The buying was scattered. Hog receipts fell off very sharply to 28.000 head yesterday, agalnat 44.O0O hend expected and IW.OiK) head a year ago. The western run of hogs yesterday was 7,f)00 head yesterday, against I29,t)00 the corresponding time last year. Wheat was unchanged to lVtc higher. ( orn was unchanged to '4c lower. CHICAGO, Deo, . Possibilities that the kaiser's death might leal to a sudden peace had much to do today with bringing about a decided downturn In the price of wheat The market closed heavy, Hffj'lo to lHo under last night. Corn finished a sixteenth to Ho off, oats down Vu-Hc to Vjc, ana provisions varying from 60 de cline to a rise of ZHc. Utatementa that the kaiser had pneu monia, and was In a serious condition, made news regarding him become all at once of prime Importance to the wheat pit. It waa not, however, until the last hour of radlng that his illness had any effect on the market, as up to that time the ailment was supposed to be merely an ordinary cold. On the other hand, traders here were quick to act on the idea that the treacherous nature of pneumonia might easily, In his case, result In more Immediate radical changes of the Eu ropean situation than the military outlook had seemed to warrant. ' The selling that followed was shared In by some of the largest houses on 'chsnge. Previous to the flurry about Emperor William's condition, the wheat market had shown hardening sentiment due to export sales, rrost In Argentina and talk of persistent lack of adequate moisture for the winter crop In western Kansas. Primary receipts continued surprisingly large, but were, perhaps, fully offset by advices of a big decrease of the seeded area of winter wheat In Russia. Export sales of 800,000 bushels made the corn market comparatively firm, despite the weaknesr of wheat. Wet weather and consequent lessening of receipt tended also toward steady prices, al though speculative selling caused at one time a moderate sag.
