Johnson of the American league would
be in New Tork on that day and would
ask the National league to take up pub
lished statements that Charles P. Taft,
owner of the Chicago National league
club, still owns the Philadelphia Nation
als, with William P. Raker, reputed
owner of the Phillies, only a minority
stockholder.

forced Humphrey V. Beckett and Fred
McLac-hlan to abandon their water trip
from Montana to the Frisco exposition
by way of the Panama canal until next
spring. They made several unsuccessful
efforts to start from Florence last s.eek,
after stopping to visit relatives a few
days. The ice presented such a danger
to their little power boat, tbe "Sally Ann."
that they finally decided not ta risk the
trip through the floating Ice to the Mis
sissippi. The boat will be housed here
until April 1. Beckett has gone to Chicago
for tha winter and McLachlan will re
main In Omuha for the present.

Details of the Thanksgiving day shoot
wore finally arranged Monday night at
a meeting of tho Carter Lake Gun club
at the office of its president, Frank I
Weaver.
There will be fifteen events, of fifteen
targets each, and all will "be handicap
shooting. Prises for each shoot will be a
turkey for first, a goose far second and
a duck for third.
Over fifty (-hooters have already signi
fied their Intentlons.of attending. The
shoot will be at the club's ground and
will start at 10 o'clock In the morning.
