Notwithstanding that peace rumors
were vsgue and seemed to be without
any solid basis, speculators Jumped in
a hurry to the soiling side of the wheat
market. Many stop-loss orders came
Into play on the ensuing break, which
reached as much as Zic compared with
the top figures that had bfeen attained
soon after the opening. Just before tin
close, however, traders as a rule seemel
to have concluded that the peace re
ports were valueless, and that a rally
was In order.
It was estimated that possibly 1.000,ftj0
bushels of wheat were taken by export
ers, although not more than a quarter
of that total was supposed to he for
Immediate shipment. Buying of De
cember delivery was said to have been
especially free . on the part of the
Europeans at Winnipeg and Kansas City.

HOGS Total receipts this morning were
tho largest sine the first of Beplember,
there being 1U0 cars, or 7.1X0 head, re
ceived, of these twenty-seven cars were
consigned dlrtct to a packer, so that the
number on sale was only a trifle larger
than Tuesday. For the three days re
ceipts fool up 1I.5Z1 bead, being over I.5U0
heavier than a week ago. buwmore than
,0j short of a year ago.
The early trade was very dull, and
while shipper bought a number of hogs
that looked steady, killers' first bldg
were from a nickel to aa much as loo
lower. Sellers ware asking stronger prices
and expected a falny steady trade, and
as a result they refused to cut loose at
the pi ices they wero offered. This made
trade very dull, and it was wall along
in the foreiuon before anything like a
general movement began.
