The month of Seplcmlwr showed a decided decrease, as compared with last year, and the year's shortage now amounts to more than 2-U.jn" head. Trade opened dull aynin toduy, and in vpite of encouraging reports from ether ixilntf, local prices lulled to show much strength. Onu or two of the packers bought a tew hogs on the first rounds that were about be higher, but as soon ns tt became known tout shippers and speculators were buying very upatingly, most of this strength disappeared, and in the end the bullk of tha auppiy moved at figures that were no more than steady to IKiasAuly a Utile stronger. Movement was stow all tho way through, but towards the close things became very dull. The general trade was dull, and steady to a nickel higher. The few hogs bought by shippers were quotably steady, but ow ing to the lightness of the shipping de mand, and the scarcity of anytuing like good lights, a real trading basis waa never established and salesmen who had pretty good stuff found that there was practically no competition In this line. Hulk ol the supply moved at r S.Va7 90, with some pretty fair hoga on the light order as high aa tS.tsJ. Kales over S7.1M wre very scarce. The week s trade has been very unsatisfactory to the sellers. and today's figures are 2ij'-So lower than a week ago. No. At. "a. Pr No. At. The close of Sen tember shows a decrease In the receipts ot some l'ft.nno head for the month as cxi m pared with the same time Isst year, which might be taken as an Indication of the cutting down of the flocks in the northwest that has been going on for several years.
