continued to take wheat In large quanti
ties during the latter part of laat week,
and from their conversations after the
close of the change they believe that
prices are to aovanc still further and
that a bull market Is among the possi
bilities. These men believe that we have
seen the worst and that any change will
be for the better la the matter of exports
of breudstufie.
It Is an assured fact that the conditions
In wheat and flour now prevailing must
be changed In order to feed the many
millions In the Importing countries of the
old world, who are now doped ing upon
the United Mates lor supplies. The msi
ket has shown beyond a doubt that toe
buying power Is much stronger than Iho
selling, and that while we have raised
the largest crop ever known In the United
ritato It Is a dangerous matter to put
out short lines at present.
The Hour situation in the United States
has attracted a. great deal of attention
of late. Prices has been marked higher
and higher, and during the week Just
closed the gains have been around $1 per
barrel for the best descriptions. The
millers not only at Chicago, but at the
northwest and southwest, feel that the
time has come for them to hold fieir out
put strongly
In view of the sensational advance In
corn riices during last week, a feeling
prevails among the trade that the market
Is due for a temporary setback. Most of
the large houses are advising their clients
to go slow on the buying side.
8omn easing up In oats prices la also
predicted for this week, but the market
la apparently healthy and will not stay
down for any length of time. The relative
cheapness of oats aa compared with other
grains has of Itself encouraged buying,
and the trade finally realises that this
country will not raise more than an aver
age crop.
Considerable uncertainty attaches Itself
to the provision situation, and It would
seem that the action of tho market dur
ing the next few days will depend upon
the receipts of hogs to a much greater
extent than usual.

ceipts at other selling points were not
large, so that there was a better fouling In
thn trude all along the line.
The quality of beef steers at this point
was poor on an average, the arrivals con
sisting largely of horned ateers, most of
them carrying none too much Hush. Th
feeling was strong, but on account of
the cattle here being common, buyers
were In no great hurry about filling or
ders, so that the trade as a whole was
slow. Still It would be safe to quote the
market as strong to a ltulo higher than
last week.
Cows and heifers were uctlve sellers,
and aa the offerings were light the supply
was soon exhausted. The prices ranged
all the wav from steady to as much as

Feeders were In light supply, while
there was a good demand, and the general
market was fully steady, with some saies

grain to either country for some time aa

sociation. A committee of five, to be ap
pointed by the association' president,
was empowered to take "such measures
as may be necessary to protect the 1 In

by the present war." 1
Whether shipment of grain should
continue on contract mode before the

protest by the Liverpool Corn Trade as

that further shipment on such contract
