gram.) By walloping Omaha in both
games of the double bill played here to
day the Kaws succeeded In muklng a
clean nweep of the five-game aeries with
the Rourkes. Tipple was easy In the
initial combat and the Kaws had no
trouble, winning 9 to 4, and the second
battle was won by the tsame score.
Bert Groved. late of the Rourkes, es
sayed to start the first fray, but he was
chased from the mound after the visitors
had garnered eight hits before two In
nings had been completed. Falrcloth, re
cently recalled from the Centdal usso
elation, went to the rescue and extracted
the battle for the fire.
Slagle was easy in the second game
and the Kaws made hits go for extra
bases, with the result that Slagle was
derrtcked In favor of Willis, who was
similarly treated.
Grovel went back Into the second
game after Bashner waas roughly treated
and held the Rourkes several innings
with but one count registered agalnt)t

home run drives over the left field wall

a . number of shifts planned by Joe Bir
mingham to build up the Cleveland club
came when he' traded Pitcher Gregg, at
one time rated as the star of the Cleve
land twirling staff, to the Boston Red
Pox for Pitchers Coumbe and A. Rankin
Johnson and Catcher Ben Egan. The
Yankees were dickering for Gregg, but
would not give the players Birmingham
wanted.

at Base Ball Today
Unable to expend their surplus energy
on the bowling alleys, because of the
summer hat, a flock of Omaha's crack
bowlers have decided to settled summer
arguments by a base ball battle at
Thirty-first and Ames avenue thin morn
ing at 9 o'clock. The combat will be be
tween the single men, captained by Al
Powell, and the married men, captained
by ICed Ilatekin. The teams have been
selected and all the bowlers in Omaha
are on the list of substitutes.

PITTSBURGH. Aug. I.-Australasla's
tennis pair. Norman E, Brookes and An
thony Y. Wilding, made a. clean sweep
of the Davis cup matches on the courts of
the Allegheny Country club at Beewlck
ley today by beating Otto Froltihelm and
Oscar Kreuser, the Germans, In the sin
gles. The real honor of the day fell to K revi
ser, who lost out in the third sstpt his
match against Brookes end played the
famous Australasian off his feet, Kreuser
rould not hold the pace, however, and he
had to let down on his sensational rtrquet
work, with the result that Brookes' final
score was 6-4, (-2, 6-8, 6-2.
Wilding had little to do to defeat Frolti
helm at 6-3, 6-4. -2. The rallies were good
and well fought. Wilding showed his
ability to hold the finning shot, however,
and ,he won without any apparent effort.
The German players will leave for New
York tomorrow night and probably will
stay at the Crescent Aathletlc club until
they sail for Germany, which will be at
the earliest opportunity, The Australa
sians will not leave here tomorrow.

Norman E. Brookes, the Australasian,
won the first set of his match with Oscar

won the match, 6-4, 7-6, 6,7, 8-6. Besides
three deuce sets many games went to
deuce also. In the fourth set the edi
tor led four to one at one time, but was
pretty well exhausted from the hard
playing and the professor finally took
the set and match. Mr. Oayrtou waa
awarded tha silver loving cup put up by
Edward Bunting, as the champion of
the city. A good crowd was present
