LITTLE CASH WHEAT BOUGHT
Small tJrnlit Attrneta Most Atten

I'Hnlita of I'rlce.
OMAHA, July 30, MM.
There was a almost complete restric
tion of tho wheat market en tho Board
of Trade. Conservatism was urged by the
officials of the big trade mart, led by
President C. It. Canby.
A dull and ihnrply lower market gave
way to sensational conditions that ex
isted on Tuesday. The fart that alt tho
houses in tho trade "cleared" at the regu
lar time yesterday caused a healthy feel
ing and thero was more assurance In the
trade
Ono of the convincing features In the
wheat market early was heavy selling of
futures by foreigners. This was followod
by efforts to cancel former purchases
made by exporters as well as Importers.
Thero was little cosh wheat bought heru
yesterday by foreigners, the tocnl tran
sactions for tlu day being 100,000 bush
els. There was additional room character
of 960,000 bushels at c to Buffalo. Kan
sas City reported hoavy offers of cash
wheat from the country, but the prices
wt re not to the taste of cash handlers.
Wheat market claimed the bulk of thn
grain trade's attention yostorday and
business In the corn pit wan compara
tively quiet. Prices suffered a sharp
reaction following a higher opening, and
though later making fair recoveries from
tho bottom, closed UT4o lower for the
day. Private advices telling of fairly
good showers In sections of Nebraska had
me eirect or urging on sellers, as the
latter state has been suffering from pro
longed dry weather and the corn In sec
tions of the territory was reported to
bo In a critical stage.
Heavy prosstiro In the way of hnlnlnir
sales against country purchases of the
actual grain foHturcd trading In tho oats
pit yesterday. This selling was done on
an opening bulge and there was a quick
it-action In prices, following which tho
market ruled sharply lower in sympathy
wiin oincr grains.
Efforts of the shorts tinder cover gavo
the mnrknt a higher start, but the market
quickly roaeted.
w heat was 6o to 7c higher.
Corn was Wo to 2e higher.
Onts were io higher.
Clearances of wheat and flnur vim
equal to 963.000 bushels; corn. 1,000 busu-
uisj uais, i,uw nusneis.
At Liverpool wheat closed higher;
corn. 3Vi8JU higher.

CHICAGO. July 30. Wheat prices
rivaled In wlldness today th oftrst market
results of Austria's declaration of war.
A rise of 9c a bushel was scored, partly

Trading, however, was deadened both by
tlio virtual refusal of many firms to at

ocean war risks. The market closed al

Tho very first transactions after the

Hour neioro the cioso.
The final sag In wheat prices came when
tulk hub centered on the prospect of a
glut of HUpplleji In the United States and
the possibility that tlCio might be no
adequate outlet.
Corn was Influenced by tho advance In
wheat and porhups even moro by nn al

Oats responded to it groatly enlarged
demand from tho east and by the fact
that heretofore oats have hud little in
crease of value compared with other
grades. Packers continued to sell pro

It was said that foreigners did consider
able buying, chiefly of lard.

HOGS There Wus a fair supply In sight
this morning, and with lower markets ut
other points, tho local trade opened out
dull and .generally lower, Khlppern and
speculators bought some early on a weak
to 5o lower basts, l'ackcra made their
first bids at figures that were about n
dlmo lower than yesterday's average.
Salesmen were expecting some sort of a
decline, hut they priced their holdings at
steady figures, una refused to cut loose at
the decline proponed by tho killers. As
a result tho packer trudo was very much
the sumo as on previous day of the
week, that Is very slow, and during the
earlier hours practically lifeless.
About 10 o'clock, however, things began
to show signs of life, and whllo It was
somo time beforu bids Improved much,
there was a stronger feeling In evidence
everywhere. Later on offers weie raised
A little at a tlmo. until they reached a
level not over 60 lower than yesterday'
general market. As was noted before,
sellers wero unking steady figures, but
In view of tho condition of other markets
they expected u doctlne of some sort, nnd
when prices strengthened up they sturted
to cash their holdings on a nickel lower
basis. This movement was by no means
general at the start, but before long It
was evident that a fairly active market
was In progress.
As tho market grew warmer and buy
ers csme Into competition on the desir
able kinds prices continued to firm up
until some hogs sold un tho extreme close
looked fully a good as Wednesday's av
erage market The fact remains, how
ever, that the long end of the sales was
made at a nickel decline and the average
w'M show a falling off of nearly 6c.
