CHICAGO, July 28. Australasia yester
day mado a sweep over Canada In the
Davis cup series. In two final matches
Norman Brookes defeated R. B. Powell.
6-0, 6-1, 6-3, and Anthony Wilding won
from B. P. Echwengers, 7-5, 6-3, 6-1. As
In the singles of Thursday when Brookes
beat Schwengers and Wilding won from
Powell, tho Canadians were butclassed
and In none of tho five matches of tho
series did they win a set. Today's
events had no effect on tho Davis cup
series, but every gamo was hard fought
ard there were more thrills for the big
crowd than in the first three matches.
Schwengers gave a much better ac
count of himself against Wilding than
he did against Brookes and at the start
of his match seemed to have a chanco
to win.
Wins After Hard Content.
The marvelous accuracy of the tall
New Zcatandcr, however, was his un
doing, Wilding, perhaps taken back by
the unexpected force displayed by the
Canadian In the opening games, allowed
Schwengers to deuco the set, but he won
after a hard contest, and thereafter kept
Schwengers too far behind to be danger
ous. The Canadian was forced to run
nil over tho court by Wilding, while the
latter, barely moving, did practically all
his work with his wrist and racquet. P.???.. J

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 26. Led
by Frazer Hale, who completed the aft
ernoon round in 70, the courso record
until today, the Chicago district golf
.091 1 team won th Olvmnio run tournament on
the links of the Kent country club this
afternoon. The gross team score of 623
and Hale's 146 for tho 36 holes, was tho
low medal score.
The Olympic championship, forerunner
to tho western amateur golf champion
ship, which commences here on Monday,
was open to four-man teams from every
part of the globe. Eleven quartets, all
from the United States, competed. The In
tercollegiate team finished second with 631.
Reversal of Form.
Tho Chicago golfers won the forenoon
round of eighteen holes with a score of
311. In the afternoon, while Halo was
driving and putting brilliantly, J. L.
Leduoshowed a reversal of form. It
took him eighty-seven strokes to make
the rounds. Poor putting was his prin
cipal fault, but Hale's sensational play
ing kept the team ahead of the intercol
legiate four.
The Intense heat bothered some of the
golfers, but it caused others to burn with
a desire to set a now mark for the
course. Before Hale shot his 70, "Chick"
Evans, of Chicago, In a practice of four
some went around In 69. Evans' per
formance lowered by one stroke, the
record, which has stood for years.
The 'Michigan team, which finished
third with 634, probably would have been
a serious contender for championship
honors had William Alden Smith, Jr., of
Grand Rapids, played the clever game he
usually does on his home course. He was
In trouble all afternoon, however, and
had to be satisfied with S3, while his
teammates air finished the afternoon
round with scores of less than 80.
Following are the individual scores of
the first and second winning clubs:
