ELEVATOR MEN NOT ALARMED Ilnth Orrnrrn nnd I'nrmera In the Spring; Wheat Cannlrr ot n lilt Anxlonsi ns to Possible l.o.r from Any Cnnse. OMAHA. July IS. 1914. While there were further advances of 'atoV In the Chicago wheat market yes terday, the buying on a leport credited to I'alrymplc, the "bonanza" wheat farmer of the northwest, the selling wan t nsldered of a better character than the buying. Oorge M. LeCount. who Is In the spring wheat country In the Interest of 1'lnley Harrell A Co., wired that house that It would be advisable to act with caution on the more sensational black rust reports sent out of the spring wheat country, as some of them were far from actual condition existing hern. Many of the reports received from the northwest, and which referred to Mack rust, said that with a change to favor able weather conditions there Is less chance for the advancement of the plague. There are few buying ordois, nc romranylng the black rust reports, which led many In the trade, especially the n uro conservative men, to go slow In making new commitments on the buying eldo. In the spring wheat country the coun try elevator concerns as well as the farmers do not seem to be alarmed by possible losses from any causo as the receipts at Minneapolis and Duluth yes terday were lj cars, against 155 a week ago and 101 n year ago. This freer movement failed to lead one to believe that the holders of the grain In the northwest aro at all anxious over crop lenses. Corn ruled quite Irregular and unsettled. Tho market was Ibcllned to follow the price changes In wheat, and It was heavy tho greater part ol tho day, but during tho latter part it firmed up. September ruled relatively firmer than the Decem ber, thcio being less selling pressure In tho former and iosslbly more covering by I BCatteml shorts. Them wero fewer com plaints received or diouth as a result of the good rains throughout tho corn belt cast of tho river The dccllno of 'ic In oats showed that market was an Independent one, as It refused to follow prices In either wheat or coin. Rains may possibly delay har vesting conditions In soma localities. Hogs weic higher at the yards and tho run In the west was small. Tho advance in provisions was led bv ribs and porlc and tho market closed firm. Cash trade in meats was fairly good nnd there wna 11 commission house demand for Septem ber pork. Packers were credited with sell ing lard and October ribs. Considerable product camn out on tho market in tho way of profit taking. W heat unchanged to tto higher. Corn unchanged to Ic lower. Oats ViiHio lower. I'loarnncea were: Wheat and flour equal to 002,000 bushels; corn, 40,000 bushels; oats, 7C,000 bushels. Liverpool close: Wheat, 'id to Ud higher; corn, W to lHd higher. Primary wheat receipts were 2,459.000 bushels, and shipments 1,1CC,000 bushels, against receipts of 1,618.000 bushels and shipments of 100,000 bushols last year. Primary corn receipts wero 422,000 bush els and shipments 300. 00 bushels, against receipts of 291,000 bushels and shipments of 877,000 bushels last year. Primary oats receipts wero 028,000 bush els and shipments 774,000 bushels, against lecelpts of 732,000 bushels and shipments of 618,000 bushels last year. CAIUOT RKCI31PTS. VuV Orn.Oats. The outcomo In provisions ranged from unchanged to a loss of lOo. Doubt whether any further spread of block rust would occur dominated tho wheat pit from the ntart. Some crop experts even ventured tho opinion that if atmospheric conultlons remain. 1 aus pklous, the lmpa;rment of the yield of spring wheat taken as a whole, would not prove to bo of a furious character. With so large a supply In sight, and other markets opening dull and lower, local buyers started out bidding prices that were around Co lower than yester day. The early trade wus rather dull, as is usual on a down market, but condi tions all Indicated a weaker trade, and It was not long before quite a number of strings had llcen cashed lit at figures that were Just about a nickel lower than yesterday's averaxe. As tho forenoon ad vanced, nowover, a live killing demand strengthened up the trade, and towards uie cioso quite a numoer ot sales were mado that looked fully steady, in fact, there were practically aa many hogs sold steady aa there were at tho earlier prices, and the general market did not look to bo over a shade lower. All the early arrivals had been cleaned up oy v;m or a little after, and aa the market had closed lively, and ail buyers were still In the yards. It looked us though the seventeen cars, which did not get in until nearly 10 o'clock, would sell fuily as well as any other time. After tho hogs had arrived, however, and It came to a show-down. It developed that only ono btiyor really wanted the hogs, and as thero were only two killers bidding at all, tho extreme close was' rather a tirile. That is, a few of tho hogs on the fair to good order sold at fully steady prices, but the majority of them looked weak, and some of the moro common ones were hard to sell, even at the early morning prices, which wero around 6o lower than yester day's market. On the whole, the early trade can bo quoted as steady to (c lower than yesterday's nverage, while the last sales wore weak, and as a general thing right at a nickel lower than yesterday. At a late hour there were a few loads left, on which packers wero bidding. bu lOo lower, und on one or two Instances no otferH were being made. Hulk ot tho sales landed at S3.70tj8.7S. with u sprinkling aa high us JS.SO, and a few at 1S.S6, the top. On tho whole, tho week's market has been fairly satis factory to the selling Interests, and In spite of today's slight break are !Jf26c higher than the closo ot last week. A new top for the year waa set this week, the high price going to $3.90, on two days. N. Ar. 8a. lr. No. Av. Sh. Tr 1 Ml ... IM 17 301 40 I7SI, II... ill M Ill tl Ill I Ml tl. 71. I. 74. l. An tTPnralto Im I V. a nn. r. n a Saturday, tho sheep barn was bare of fresh receipts this morning. A big drop In lambs, with the sorting considerably heavier than last week were tho outstanding features of the trade this weeit. xno receipts aggregate some 42.571 head, being In the nelghbo. hood of 6.686 more than last week and 10.886 more than during tho samo week last year. These liberal receipts led the packem to or ganize a bear raid on tho lamb market, which resulted In iambs at the close or the week selling fully 604,00c lower than n week ago. Considering the tortlng was heavier at tho close of tho week tho de clno In many cases amounts to a little moro than this. Notwithstanding heavy sorts the packers took the hulk of tho rcconds and culls and It was not until late in tho week before the feeder buyers got In and secured any feeding grades and then wero able to buy only a few, most of the lambs sold for feeding purposes going largely nt a range of $a.60f;.75, The quality of tho offerings as a rule was very good on all dnys. Quite natural to expect when prices are on the downward trend, trade was slow most of the time, yet in the end everything was sold nndi few If uny offerings wero held over from one day to another nnd little sturf was chipped further east, Huuth Omaha taking practlcully everything coming this way nt n level of prices comparatively high fop this tlmo of tho year, notwithstanding the big slump In values.
