RACES AT WEST POINT
Some Omaha business men are talklnsr
of driving to West Point today for
the last day of the horse races at that
place. They have an invitation from the
mayor of the city to come and enjoy the
racos on a day which has been set aside
as "Omaha day." It Is likely that Sec
retary J. D. Weaver of Ak-Sar-Ben will
go, accompanied by a bunch of Ak-Sar-
Ben men.

LONDON, July 15. Boxing experts hero
show a remarkable even division" ot
opinion as to the chances of "Gunboat"
Smith, the American heavyweight, and
Georgo Carpentlcr, tho French hoavy
weight champion. In their twenty-round
match to be fought at Olympla tomorrow
night Tho betting odds today were per-,
haps a Hhade In favor of tho Frenchman,
but this was due probably to the en
thusiasm of his countrymen, great num
bers of whom have crossed the Kngltsh
channel to support their hero. They
brought with them a great deal of money
to back their compatriot whom they
describo as a "fighting boxer," while they
call Smith a "boxing fighter," and they
cohtend that science Is bound to defeat
the traiuatlantjc punch.
Interest In the contost Is enormous and
the attendance promises to create a record
for this country.
Fired by the example of the Rev. John
Bcrvoy Boudler, who acted as master of
ceremonies at the Welsh-Ritchie match,
and of Rev. Bvorard Dlgby, who occupied
a similar position at the Wells-Bell match,
many clergymen have obtained seats
around the arena and are said to Intend
to bring their "wives with them.

Wichita and Denver.
O'Neill has been hearing considerable
criticism of his umpiring staff, and he
la out to make his own Judgment, Tip

arbitrating staff, and only ono ump,
Jack Haskall, has been able to maintain
the unanimous approval of every city In

his umpires and will continue to do so
until he secures those who can satisfy

It waa freely admitted that Minnesota
fields as well as those In South Dakota
showed serious Inroads from block rust.
Advices wero that tho plague had traveled
to within thirty miles of the border of
North Dakota. The ravages already In
somo places were sold to be worse than
In 1013 when the spring crop throughout
the Dakotas and the Minnesota suffered
widespread ruin.
Bullish cables helped keep the wheat
market on the upgrado from the start.
Liverpool quotations made a sudden
Jump, and there wore estimates that ow
ing to the backwardness ot European
crops the Import requirements or trans
Atlantic countries might amount to as
much as 720,000.000 bushels. Uneasiness
In regard to threats of a rullroad tlcup
counted also against the bears.
Failure of predicted rains led to a bulge
In corn and so did a sharp advance, at
Buenos Ayres, wlere tho quality of ar
rivals was unsatisfactory, nnd the
weather bad for shippers. Enlargement
of country offerings chanced to check
any decided upturn for oats.
Provisions followed the course of the
bog market. There was a dip at the
outset but later It was noticeable that
Mock yard Interests had taken to the
buying side.

8HEW1' The run was somo T.800 head,
about the same as a week ago, but a
little lsrger than two weeks and a year
ago. There was no great cnange in me
quality of the offerings trom yesteruay,
hut the imnkm wer extremely bearish,
claiming that prevailing pricos wero much
higher than they ought to be and out of
line with Chicago. The opening of the
market was slow. Once the stllers agreed
to accent thn decline the movement scale
ward became fairly active, with prices
on lambs dropping fully 15JfJ5e. Mutton
offerings sold weak to lOttl&c lower.
The range on lambs was from SS.R to
$8.00, the latter price belnr as high as
any lambs sold. Tho sorting was notice
ably heavier today. Thn lambs at M.85
amounted to about nine cars of Idaho :
offerings, with 250 head out at $7, these
going to the packer buyers. Feeder buy
ers have bought little If anything this
week owing to the keen Inquiry on thi
part of the packing Interests.
About soven or eight cars of yearling
ewes, mostly yearlings, made up the mut
ton offerings, Early some Idaho year
lings moved at S6.26, and ewes at 14.90.
