Charles Sherman, vice president of the Happy Hollow club, with T. W. Carpen ter, drove off the first tec at 6:. this morning, leading the list of 214 entries In the first day of play. In rapid succenston, the pairs at Inter- vajn of two minutes, got away from tho ten before a gallery which surpassed any which has witnessed the opening of a stato golf tournament In Omaha. Appuuss was given In liberal quantities for tho excellent drives, whllo the gallery sympathetically groaned when the players dubbed their drives up the hill to the first green. The Happy Hollow club course was never In moro perfect condition, nnd Charles Johnson, professional, who has gambled with the weather man during1 tho last month, camo off victor, when excellent showers fell following tho last mowing of the fair green. Ilnnpr Hollow Lends. Tho Happy Hollow club led the entry list with 105, while tho Field club was second with fifty-seven men on the entry list.
