Dolnsr Any Damns.
Pa's noble athletes wero vlctlmi of clr
eumstance yesterday afternoon and clr
camitanc chose to flip the battle to
Des Moines, chiefly because circum
stance and Frank Isbell have Ions been
close associates. The hectic climate put
the blink on the perspiring; athletes and
they succumbed very ungraciously to the
tune of 9 to 8. Haiti Is much more suit
able for our boys than heat.
The day was better for Inhaling Iced
drinks than for expounding the national
pastime and as a, result the Rourke
twlrlers dissolved and faded from
view. "Willis wan the first to van
ish. Willis deserves credit for lasting as
ions as he did. The appliance of a fan
ning towel and a bucket of cool water
even failed to revive the heaver and he
was forced to hike for the shower.
Can Tipple was sent out to take Mr.
Willis' place and Daniel did as good as
could be expected.
Nick Lakaff, Booster hurler, also fell
a victim to the weather. Lakaff faded,
In the sixth and a dry pitcher, Lafferty,
was hurried to the scene. Latterly was
feeling fine and he pitched in the same
manner thus squelching all swatting am
bitions of the Rourkes.
Omaha copped two off Lakaft at the
start, due to one nice blow by Mr. Dun
lop, who was tho star of the pastime.
Dunlop busted three pretty hits at very
opportune times during the fray, much
to the delight of everybody. Schlpko
opened with a single and Dunlop splut
tered the next pitch to right for a double,
giving Skipper Illll ample time to cross
the plate.
Visitors Score in second.
But In the second the Boosters opened
on the suffering Willis, Jones, Haley,
Burrell and JIahn soaked the old pill and
three runs camo over. The Rourkes tied
it in the third. With two down Dunlop
slammed one to center and Krug followed
with a double and Thomason with a sin
gle. Both sides scored In the fifth. Hahn
doubled and caroe home on Kellly's bin
Cle for Des Moines, and Schlpteo singled,
went to third on Dreen'a error and came
homa on Dunlop'a poke to right for
Omaha.
Willis Hikes to Shower.
In the fifth Willis decided that the
shower was the best place for him and
after watching him twirl the Inning
Grinding agreed with htm, as did the paid
customers present- Five hits were gar
nered by Jones, Haley, Ewoldt, Lakaff
and Hunter and two runs came over.
Congalton's two-base blow and Ward's
single netted one of the two back for
the Rourkes, but all to no avail, as no
more did the Rourkes count, due to tho
activities of the dry Mr. La(ferty.
The Boosters did score a few more.
How thy did It Is a mystery but they
did It. Two bases on balls, a sacrifice, a
fielder's choice, a passed ball and one
puny hit counted the three.
Today the- same teams will battle for
the benefit of the women and whatever
paid customers may come out Saturday
two conflicts are scheduled with the first
starting at 1 o'clock. Score:
