THE BEE: OMAHA, THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 1914. Drawn for The Bee by "Bud" Fisher ROUMES WINJET CONTEST Cop Game Featured by Much Bain frem Sea Moines. TIME CALLED IN SEVENTH Cmp Pyfe Who Let It Ilstn for Several Innlnas, Calls Time for Trrentr sllnntes to Protect Neir Silk Shirt.. No Wonder Mutt Slams Jeff Every Once in a While I 8 J"Ust a Pa. Rourke's brave contenders and Frank labell's demon athletes had inaugurated a nice little combat at Rourke park yesterday afternoon Mr, Jup rhn-lua horned In and did hla beat to crab the doings. He was successfully repelled, however, by Umpa Fyfe, who, despite a nice new silk shirt, paid on heed to the Intruding person and the contest ran Ita altoted nine rounds. At the end of the sold nine rounds careful calculation show that Omaha copped the combat, 11 to 8. When the battle opened the thermome ter registered somewhere In the Immedi ate vicinity of M, official report from the weather bureau, and the vlattlnfr enter tainers were quite chesty, therefore, cop pins; three runs off Bert Drover, who Is much opposed to excessive heat, In the first two rounds. After this dastardly ex ecution by our guests large clouda ap peared on the horizon and scared the Boosters quite considerable. A irlnute later the rain began to drop gently on the diamond and Mr. Fyfe's silk shirt. As the rain Increased In volume and speed the Des Moines hands started to weaken and after that It was all Omaha. Bunk Congalton started the noise with a home run over the right field wall, sending Thomas In ahead of him. This happened In the second Inning. In the third Bill Schlpke, the well-known acqua tic performer, decided that the rain was the proper Incentive for activity on his part, ao he started by busting on sin gle. From then on, with the acquatlo performer leading, Omaha lambasted Mr. Mogrldge all over the pasture. Tim Called In Seventh. After the first half of the seventh the rain became so obnoxious that It made a ferocious and uncalled-for attack on Mr. Fyfe's silk shirt. Highly Incensed and peeved. Mr. Fyfo decided to thwart Jup Pluv by calling time. After twenty min utes' wait the game was started again, and again Jup took a hand. However, Mr. Fyfe Ignored the "damage being done to his selective and expensive garb and let the K&mo finish. Itahn was soaked In the slats In the opening round by a pitched ball. He was sacrificed to second, went to third on an Infield out and home on Brcen'a double. In the second Haley, Burrell, Mogrldge and- Hahn hit safely, scoring two runs. At this Junction Mr. Drover ended his career abruptly and Kfoson Clostn&n ap peared from the dugout. To give Ebson a start Thomason bunted safely In the second, but was forced by Thomas. Here Congalton boosted the pill out of the enclosure and Des Moines' three runs didn't look so trig. As four hits by Cloaman, Schlpke, Thomason and Thomas were made in the, third, sending? over two markers, the lead looked still less. Des Moines made one In the fourth on a gift from the kindly-hearted Mr. She atak. Shea heaved the ball through first base just to see If he could do It and Ewoldt got to second. He later cams home on a sacrifice fly after being sac rificed to third. To make up for his erring, Bheatak fixed -it so Omaha would make one in the fourth. 'Ward was safe on. Rellly'a muff and Shestak poled a beaut of a double, which completed Rellly's work. Fifth the BIk Innlner. But the fifth was the inning. Krug sin gled, Thomason was safe on Burrell'a bobble, Thoma singled, Congalton sacri ficed, "Ward lifted a sacrifice fly and Bhestak singled. All this gave the Rourkes four regular runs, salting the combat As a double by Ewoldt and a single by Hahn gave the Boosters one In the sixth Vhe Rourkes came back after the twenty- fwwnjj.
