erally speaking, arc anxious to get rid

ket, but tho average speculators, with
the Idea that prices aro to sell lower,
have given the market a good deal of
bear attention, and their sales have
amounted to many millions of bushels.

istician In the Chicago market who re
lieves that the combined spring nnd win
ter wheat crops will exceed OOO.OOO.OW
bushels, while there are others who are
willing to wngcr that tho OOO.OOO.COO-bushol
level will never be reached.
There was quite a controversy yester
day over the condition of a cargo or two
of Argentine corn that was received ut
Uolveston. A New York house wired Its
western correspondent that tho corn was
out of condition. On this there was Home
buying in the Chicago pit, but the report
v as later denied, and those who bought
corn threw it overboard at losses. The
Kansas corn plant Is said to be ln excel
lent condition, with somo of It waist high.
Oats were firm all day, particularly so
when tho weakness ln the other grain
Is considered. There was heavy buying
by local shorts and tho selling was scat
tered. Ribs were the leader In the provision
market and the demand was general.
The market made fair gains and closed
firm. The small offerings were a feature.
A largo western packer sold on the hard
spots. The cash trade was reported as
some better, and the hog market was
without much change. Increases were
shown ln tho Chicago provision stocks.
