This was Chi cago's fifth straight victory and Wash ington's fourth consecutive defeat. The lone hit of the visitors was made by Alnsmlth In the ninth Inning. The Washington catcher knocked a swift grounder toward Weaver, but Alcock stepped In front of him and then juggled the ball momentarily. It was too hot for Alcock to handle and It went for a single, depriving Dent of a no-hlt game. A week ,ago he held Cleveland without a hit .Chicago hit Johnson rather freely. In tho opening Inning, with two out, Dem mltt tripled and scored on Collins' single. Alcock's single and Weaver's double In the seventh netted tho locals' other run. Score; WASHINGTON. CHICAGO. GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET Discounting of Bearish Movement Seems to Have Been Mistake. PROSPERITY LIKELY TO SMILE Exportation of Grain "Will In All Probability tie Heavy nnd Ilrlnir Hack Mnch Gold to I'nltnl 5tnte. Miller, If, Wiler. If., Bates, cf.... 4 OMAHA, Neb., June 10. 1914. The opinion as voiced by many con servative men In the wheat trado that the bearish government report was fully discounted before it made its appearance on Monday seems to have been a mistake. Prices were HltilS lower yesterday and there waa increased pressure ana tins pressure came from the actual wheat. Not only was Oklahoma a seller of now crops In the Chicago marKl yesterday but the states nortn of Oklahoma were on the selling slue, and this loo, against the grain that. Is ripening rapidly, or Is being harvested. ChiCARo being the financial center of the west will be forced to take care of many millions of bushels of wheat and the bankers here are In a position to fur nlsh all the money needed tor that pur pose. A great deal of wheat has x?en sold for export and the movement of mis grain out of the country will mean the return of enormous quantities of gold from the importing nations of the old world. Those who view the situation Im partially feel that prosperity will smile upon tne United States as It has not smiled In years, because of the big whmt crop that Is now assured and which Is being marketed In the Chicago Pit even before It Is ready for the thrcaher. One of the faturcs of the wheat market at Chicago yesterday waa tho heavy buy ing of Juiy wheat. These purchases were believed to be In the way of taking off hedges on old wheat, which shows that heavy sales of the old crop have been made. Manitoba wheal Is again showing some activity, the reported sales from tne va rious markets at the seaboard totaling fifty boat loads. Crop conditions In Can ada, as well as In our own northwest, were reported ns favorable. Although the new crop of wheat Is at our very doors and may be called a bear ish factor, thero Is a possibility of the market becoming oversold, aa the local bear crowd continues to pour large quan tities of this grain Into tho pit In the expectation of being able to even up their position at a lower price. The market at the moment Is oversold, and when tills Is said, tho hedging transactions are not referred to. Sumo of the wheat put out In this market must have beon sold by strong hands, but a great deal of it has been sold by specialists, who will not stand In their short position In case of the advent of a change to higher prices. Corn closed Irregular and unsettled and showed losses of MtKc for tho nearby futures, while the more deferred were Ho lowor to unchanged. It waa said that Iowa waa a Uberul seller of corn to ar rive, but Illinois sales wero light, which waa partly due to continued dry and hot weather and the country Is beginning to need rain badly. Oats were He lower to c higher. The market was Ctfected at various times by mc weuncBj in wneat ana tne strength In corn. Packers led In the aelllricr nrwl h mar ket was poorly supported.
