10 THE BEE OMAHA, WEDNESDAY, JTNE 3, 1914. Local Tourists Are Buying Travelers' Checks in Numbers The sesson of travel la already arriv ing and traveler' checks are again In demand. Already the express compalnat end banks are netting a considerable quantity of these. So popular have these travelers' ohecks become that few people now travel with large sums of money on their person, since they rrave found that the travelers' checks are every bit as convenient and that the- loss of the trav eler's checks unsigned Is no loss at all to the loter. Three checks are Issued In convenient denominations of 1 10, f, (GO. $100 and J2W. The cost of obtaining these Is but SO cents per WOO worth. The traveler simply goes to the express office or the bank where these checks are sold and buys them In any quantity and In any denom inations he desires. He Is required to sign Ms name at the top of the check when he obtains It That simply shows It has been Issued to him. He canriot cash It until he signs It properly at the bottom. The signature Is compared with the sig nature at the top. If he loses any of the ohecks the finder can scarcely forge his signature In such a way as not to have the difference detected and be caught One remarkable case la of an Omaha man who bought travelers: checks from an express company to the amount of $1,400 when he was starting for a trip to Germany. When he arrived at New York he had lost the bundle of checks. Ho was frantic. Ho rushed to the New York pfflce of the company, and told his troubles. 41 felt sure that he had lost $1,400. If he had carried that much 'n bills It would have been lost. But the New York office paid him his $1,400 In thirty minutes after he proved his identity. A few days later the checks appeared. They had been found In the Pullman car In which the man had slept on the way to New York. Dncklen'R Arnica Salve cured Ben Poot of Threet, Ala., after being dragged over a gravel roadbed. During the last year by reason of improvements on the entire line which cost nearly $11,000 per mile, we gained new pas sengers at rate of over 400 per day and in all 13,00.0 carloads of new freight, and we are still grow ing. As fares and freight rates are tho same via all railroads, It seems that people realize that It pays them best to use the road which keeps abreast of the times. TO ST. PAUL AXD JIINNEATOLIS Lr.
