Contractors who have been speculating
In houses are stormlnc the office of the
city hulldlnff Inspector to protest against
the new building code, which, they say,
Is so stringent that "this year's houses
cannot be built to compete with buyers
with last year a houses."
Also, there Is n loud wall from the
builders o( thln-walled houses, who have
been putting up cheap structures quickly
for sale. Soma of these houses are now
In courso of construction and the build
ing department will order them torn
down and built under the ordinance
where- the work has not progressed too
far.
"To build under this now code It will
bo necessary to spend from 1200 to $500
more on tho foundation of each house,"
said a contractor In tho building Inspec
tion office. "That will take away the
profit. I've h notion to quit building
houses for sale."
"Still, tho public will get better houses,
though your profits may be less," sug
gested the building Inspector.
Tho new building code, which has Just
been published, covers ten newspaper
pages.

THERE ISN'T a home in this
city, whose private laundry uses as
much water in doing a washing, as
we wo'uld use on the same goods.
CJf Sounds queer, doesn't it? Tt isn't the rubbing that
makes things spotless, but plenty of water. We han

Cuts that print
There la often all tho difference In the world between
a cut that show? up well In the engraver's proot and one
that show up well when It la printed. Cuts made for a
newspaper hav to be made bo that they will give good
results under the most advene conditions. For that rea
son, a newspaper engraving plant produces cuts that the
ordinary printer can use and get good results.
It yon have some engraving to be done, send us the
work and compare both the results and the prices with that
ot ordinary engraving plants.
