Think King Ak Should Offer Prize for Attendance Court house officials are of the opinion that Ak-Sar-Ben should offer a prise for regularity of attendance at the festivities at the Den on Monday evenings. This opinion la largely brought about by the fact that they think the winning candl date would come from their number, but they asrt they are entirely disinterested about It. E. W. Palmer, chief sheriff's deputy, has. a record of missing less than a doxen Monday evenings' entertainments at tho Den In fifteen years and declares he got hla money'a worth at every one. For this reason court houso officials think Ak-Bar-Ben ought to offer a prize for regulorlty of attendance at the Den during the last fifteen years, with alt contestants barred who have any chance of beating their favorite. FIREMAN M'GUIRE IS RETIRED0N A PENSION Pete McGuIre, who for twenty-six years has been nn the fire department ot Omaha, has been retired on pension by the city commission at the Instance of Commissioner C, H. TARRY - - 240 LAMES GO LIE "HOT CAKES" Feeders Snapping Thenv Up as Sfjn as They Get on Market. PRICES PAID ARE EXTRA HIGH Snnth Ontnha Puckers Unnhle to Compete , with Other nlddexa nnd Sell stents nt the Go Ins Quotation. So anxious are the farmers and sheep men In the country to get lambs to feed for the fall and winter market that what few arrive on the 6outh Omaha market are readily snapped up at prices higher than the packers care to pay for them. This Is the reason assigned for the sud den rife In the price of lambs both on the hoof and In the wholesale meat mar ket. The packers declare they cannot af ford to pay the price that Is necessary to outbid the farmers and feeders, and at the same time 6n lambs cheap on the wholesale meat market. The result Is that lambs have Jumped up several dollars ou the wholesale market In the last few weeks. Within the last few days several large consignments of lambs came from Cali fornia to the Bouth Omaha market. This U unusual for tho time ot year. The packing house got these and. It Is said, paid 9 cents a pound for them on the hoof. In the neighborhood of 1.000 California, lambs were on the market In Bouth Omaha yesterday and brought $9.10 per 100 pounds. The packers are pricing lambs at whole sale at IS to 18 cents a pound. Tha re tailers are finding It difficult to get their supply at that figure even. With the scarcity of sheep that re sulted from the hard winter a few yeanJ ago, together with the scarcity ot feed on the ranges due to. the dry weather, tho ranchers are now anxious to stock up where the range Is good and the farmers, who have plenty ot teed are anxious to get hold ot good lambs to feed. This has put a brlskncra Into the market at South Omaha, as farmers and ranchers are there every day watching fdr the few lambs that chance to come In from scat tered sections ot the range where, from one reason or the other the ranchers are compelled to get rid of them. Commercial Club to Take Interest in Local Politics The Commercial club will Concern Itself with tho general fall election to tho ex tent that It will send notices to Its mem bers urging that they all go to the polls both at the primaries and at the general election and vote for "good representa tive men." This was decided at the meeting of the executive committee at noon. The club ha also decided to take steps toward organising a glee club ot the membership ot the club. This grew out of the splendid entertainment the club enjoyed at tho hands of the Glee club that came with the Peoria boosters last week. It was decided at once that the Commercial club should have a similar glca club and It was at once recalled that there Is pretty good timber In the mem bership from which to draw for this purpose. Edgar 11. Scott was elected member ot tho executive committee to succeed T. I. Elllck, resigned. Captain' H. H. Kline pf the Salvation Army was made an honorary member ot the club. Three More Men Arrested in the Wild Horse Case Three more men Indicted by the recent federal grand Jury In connection wHh the ArUona wild horse' case, were arrested and brought to Omaha by Deputy United States Marshal G. L. Mallory ot Llttlo Rock, Ark. As a result Dr. A. F. Gray, a physician living near Little Rock, Ark., and Robert Llndsey and R. K. Garners, farmers liv ing near Hardy. Ark., are lodged In the Douglas county Jail, In default ot bonds. According to the story current U Hardy, Ark., the two farmers traded their farma for the wild horse contracta ot sale. They then discovered thatrhejf did not havo enough money to go to ArUona to catch their horses. They then traded their contracts, or sold them, to a minister named Rlchey, who is said to be one ot the government witnesses In the esse. It Is said that the three man brought here from Arkansas deny hav ing any. knowledge ot the tact that the contracta were worthless when they dis posed of them, N0RDEN SINGING SOCIETY TO GO TO MINNEAPOLIS The Norden Singing society of Omaha will send a chorus of twenty-five to the sangerfest of the United Singers' Associa tion of America that holds Us convention In Minneapolis, June X to 1L The chorus will be under the direction of John S.
