cup, was launched hero today and chris
tened by tho' countess of Shaftesbury.
The new challenger took the water1 on
the stroke of noon. There waa no hitch
In the arrangements and It slid down tho
ways easily as the countess of Shaftes
bury, who had done similar service for
Shnmrock III;' christened Slr Thomas
Upton's latest champion.
Tho little shipping town was gaily deco
rated with American and British flags,
with which was Intermingled the yellow
flag with the big green Shamrock of the
Royal Ulster Yacht club. Everybody
present wore a shamrock.
The British battleships In the. harbor
were firing a salute In honor of the
queen's birthday as Shamrock IV waa
launched and most of the Inhabitants of
theatown thought the salute was for the
yacht.

the American amateur champion, Jerome
D. Travers, reached the third round today
