VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER
BROUGHT AGAINST K0ZIAL
COLUMBUS, Neb.. May 10.-(Speclal
Telegram.) After being deadlocked for
almost eight hours, the Jury In the Poter
Kozlal case returned a verdict of man
slaughter. For a time a disagreement
was probable, aa tho Jury stood six and
six, and the verdict contained a recom
mendation for leniency.
Iast Christmas Peter Moetek was killed
at Tarnov, being struck with a blunt In
strument, and Kozlal was charged with
the crime. When the caso was called at
tho February term the principal witness
was In Rochester, Minn., undergoing an
operation for appendicitis, and his ab
senee caused much comment, and precau
Hons wero taken to secure his presence
at tho present trial.
Tho caso was tried before Judge
Thomas. Kozlal was defended by W. K.
Reed of Madison and Louis Llghtner of
