While Omaha was being Riven a thor
ough drenching Thursday ntght, the whole
of Nebraska, western Iowa, the southern
portion of South Dakota, Kansas, Colo
rado and Wyoming got the tame kind
of treatment. According to the reports
to the railroads It was the heaviest and
most general rain of the season. It Is
declared that It will be of inestimable
valtio to the growing crop and will pre
clude the possibility of a drouth during
the early portion of the growing period,
at least.
Station reports to the railroads Indi
cate that In many localities a light fait
of hall accompanied the rain and some
wind, but not enough to do. any large
amount of damage. Throughout the
western portion of the state the rain com
menced" early In the afternoon and con
tinued well Into the night and without
any cessation. Up the Elkhorn vnlloy and
out In the South Platte country, It
started In the early evening and for .from
four to six hours there waa a steady
downpour, coming down gently and ad
