by Mrs. Alice Wright charging him with
arson, She tells the story that Douglass
wanted to marry her and she refused and
for revenge he set fire to her home. It

City National bank of Council Bluffs was
taken Into custody early yesterday ven
Ing and wilt this morning be brought be
fore th Board of Insanity commissioners
of Pottawattamie for examination. For
the purposes of restrain, h was
taken to St. Bernard's hospital. HU
mental condition Is such that It Is quite
certain tho commissioners will order hint
taken to Clarinda for hospital treatment.
Tha information was filed by relatives
early yesterday and tho Insanity com
mlssloners assembled during tho after
noon to tako tho testimony of several
Physicians, Including Drp. Macrae and
Treynor, but It was found that the young
man bad barricaded himself In his horn
on South Eighth street and could not
b secured without resorting to force.
Sheriff Lindsay and Chief of Police Vien
united In the effort, but It wa not until
several hours had elapsed that he was
Induced to submit quietly. He was In a
very quiet mood when Sheriff Llndsey
took him to. the hospital last night.
Mr- Hannan's mental condition has
greatly troubled hie family and friends
for aaveral months, lie was attacked by
nervous prostration last November and it
was necessary to take him to a sanitar
ium and keep him under treatment (or
several weeka. He returned greatly Im
proved and resumed his duties at th
bank. A month ago Indications of an
other mental disturbance became ap
parent and a tew days ago the stock,
holders of the bank decided to accept his
resignation.
Mr. Hannan Is the only son at th lot
C. R. Hannan, and was the prinolpal holr
to the large fortune left by his father.
It was the father's wish to establish, a
great bank In Council Bluffs, and when
the estate was settled th wish was car
ried out by the son and his mother, as
sisted by his brother-in-law, C. G. Turner
Young Honr.an gave promise of a brilliant
financial career, but not being physically
strong he began the Use of alcoholic
stimulants.
Ho was married several years ago and
had a happy domestic life until his mental
trouble developed.
Yesterday he held off deputies with
threats to kill any person who attempted
to enter the house. He Is 27 years of age.
Physicians who aro familiar with th
case are confident the treatment he will
receive and th quiet lit he will lead
under th car of Dr. Wltte at Clarinda
will restore htm in a short time.
