Creighton Athletio Board Signs Con

nlerrii.
Harry Miller and Chester Dudley will
be tho associate coaches ot tho Creigh
ton university foot ball team next fall,
according to a statement Riven out fol
lowing a meeting of the Creighton ath
letic board Monday evening.
The board has been negotiating with
both Miller and Dudley for tome time,
and the contracts were not signed until
the meeting Inst evening.
Miller has been coach of tho Creighton
team for the last four years, and all
year athletio coach at Creighton for tho
last two years. Thero was some doubt
at the close ot the last foot ball season
whether he desired to coach longer or
lb follow up his profession, During
Miller's stay at Creighton, athletics havo
been raised to a much higher standard.
Miller, betoro coming to Creighton. was
a star halfback on tho Notre Danvo foot
ball eleven, being known as the "red
headed devil." following the game In
which ho gained credit for defeating
Michigan almost simile handed. IIo
graduated a year ago from tho law de
partment of Creighton university. Ills
homo is at Defiance, O.,
Dadley Called Ten-StrlUe.
Tho engagement of Dudley la regarded
as a stroko of actual cleverness at
this time, Dudley last season acted as
assistant to Coach "Jumbo" Btletim In
training tho champion Cornhuskers at
Lincoln, and Nebraska was mora than
anxious to secure his services tor next
year. By some critics who followed the
Cornhuskers through the last season.
Dudley was given the lion's share of the
credit for tho fighting spirit of the team!
Dudley comes from Dartmouth, where
he starred at fullback. Ho Uvea In
Council Bluffs, and Is now engaged In
buslnesa with his father at South Omaha.

The engagement at two coaches for
next year came as the result of a decision
by tho newly organised athletio board at
Creighton. that the Job Is too big for one
man. Miller alone has put the team m
a higher level, and Miller and Dudley to
gether will attempt to go f.'tcr bigger
things. Both are renowned for their
spirit and fighting ability,
Anptsje Game Added.
Tho seventh game has been added to
tho Creighton foot ball schedule. It will
be with 8t. Thomas collego at St Paul.
Crolghton played this team a tie game,
0 to 0, here a year ago. St. Thomas de
feated Marquetto at Milwaukee last
Thanksgiving, and Is one of the strong
learns In that section.
The Creighton management is under
stood to be on tho lookout for at least
one more big game for next year. At
present the big games -are with Haskell
and South Dakota here, and with Mar
quette at Milwaukee.
The new athletio board has decided that
Creighton will have no base ball team
this spring, due to a shortago In varsity
material. Tho shortage Is caused by the
eany dismissal ot classes In the profes
sional departments, whence the lareer
numbers of players would be drawn.
Dan Butler, city commissioner and
former Creighton star foot ball player,
has been elected president of the now
athletic board, and Edward F. Lcary, lo
cal attorney, secretary.
