CinCAGO, March 12. "The Chicago
National Leaguo Base Ball club will not
be sold this year In my belief," John
R. Thompson said tonight, after receiving
the report of his emissary wl" I""1 a
conferenco yesterday In Cincinnati with
Charles P. Taft.
Mr. Taft would not set a price for the
stock he holds In tho club, Mr. Thompson
added, "and as far as my agent could
determine has not seriously considered
selling his interest. Ho has as much as
said to my representative that ho had
as much property Interest in Chicago as
any resident and felt that ho could bo
regarded as a Chlcagoan."
When this news bocamo known several
ot those, who have been Interested In the
posslblo Halo ot the control of the club,
asserted that the situation tended to
confirm previously reports to the effect
that Charles W. Murphy never really
cwned a majority of the stock ot the
Chicago club, nftd had not therefore sold
It back to Mr. Taft. The same persons
asserted that the recent retirement ot
Murphy merely was a nominal change ot
ownership, leaving Mr. Taft free to name
a now president ot the club, while
Murphy remained Inactively connected
with the organization.
In this connection it was said that
Charles II. Thomas, secretary of the
club, might bo elected president for this
year under tho present ownership.
