T1IK BK13: OMAHA, SATURDAY, MAlU'tl 7, 1H14. K7 A hi HIT Y V EGGS JUMP UP THREE CENTS! " Storms in the East Too Much for the Laying Hen. CHEESE ALSO HIGHER IN PRICE N'tt CnbbnKc Come from Tcxn Oranges Are Plentiful nml Clirnp Olil Potatoes Sell for i Dollnr a nnshc-1. umorous selections nre contributed b.' I Stephen Leacock and James Montgomery.) I nagg. "inieresttng J'eopie ana mo me i ntrlcal department are filled with good j things. After coming down nicely for several weeks, eggs Jumped 3 cents or moro In the last few days. Kggs that sold In Omaha for 25 cents a dozen not many days ago are now celling tor 28. Tho his snow storm.i throughout the east arc blamed for the rise. A great demnnd has been created there for tho eggs from this section, and the result Is that tho price has been boosted here. Tho eastern hen during the snow storms Is not supplying thu eastern consumer with eggs. It Is a well known fact that hctis will not lay In very cold weather, especially during a period of snow storms. It Is expected that In a few weeks when the Inclement wather of tho east shall have passed over, eggs will again come down several cents a dozen. Cheeso has gone up IVi cents a pound In the last few days, and no definite cause Is assigned. It Jumped from 1 cent to Hi sents, wholesale, since last Monday. r Cabbage Here. New cabbago has arrived from Texas. It Is of good solid quality nnd Is selling at cents a pound. Cabbage has for somo reason been held down to 2V4 nnd 3 cents practically all tho winter, and now that new cabbage has arrived on he mar ket before tho supply of old Is exhausted, It is expected that tho price will remain leasonable, especially If tho new crop proves a good one. The new cabbago Is In large heads, instead of the small grade that was marketed when the supply of old cabbage was growing short. Old potatoes are still selling at Jl a bushel, although new potatoes are on tho market. New ones are so high as to be almost prohibitive to most families. Apples are very scarce on the market nowand correspondingly high. Oranges, however, are hero In. great abundance. Oranges can be had at a. cent apiece. This Is about as cheap as good orarfces were ever offered In Omaha. This does not mean that all oranges can bo had at , 1 rent apiece, but there Is a good healthy quality of oranges that can be had at that. They range from 13 cents a dozen to S5 cents a dozen. Grapo fruits are abundant nnd of good quality. They can bo had at. from 10 cents to 15 cents apiece, depending upon the size. Tho Metropolitan contains "The Disease of Parliaments." by II. G. Wells; "Th: Failure of Government bv Good l'eople, ' by Lincoln Bteffens; "What's Doing on the Potomac," by Art Young: "The So cialism of Stelnmets," by Arthur II. Gtcason.
