OMAHA, March 2, 1914.
The com country reports the roads
aro breaking up and this means that
the movement ot that grain will show a
falling off. With the drying out of the
soil in the fields spring farm work will
bo Inaugurated and theso combinations
will mean that llttlo attention will be
given to tho hauling of corn or any other
kind of grain to the country stations until
the early plowing and seeding has been
finished. Those who aro, on the bull side
of the corn market at present are basing
their claims for an aavahco tn values on
the foregoing conditions. The traders
In corn, however, are not nil hulls bv any
means. Those favoring the bull side are
accumulating lines on tho declines on the
belief that with any further falling off
in receipts the buying power will become
better and absorb tho cash stuff as fast
as received.
on the other hand the bears point to
;h, lack of demand for tho cash article.
This, of course, Is their principal help.
iviinuui Business in casn grain tho
futures cannot possibly bo held or ad
vanced. The east continues to harp upon
the fact that there aro small stocks In
'' occnon or tne country, but there Is
no necessity of supplies being held thero
when an export demand Is Impossible In
the face of cheaper Argentine offerings,
which are supplying all foreign demand.
Dealers in corn In the cast are waiting
patiently for eastern orders so they can
get rid of a part of their surplus, but
these eastern orders seem to be few and
far between. It Is said that the few lots
of corn to change hands during tho last
fortnight have been ut prices quite satis
factory to the buyers,

bought somo butcher stuff early In the

packer was out cany with un oraer lor
real light stuff, and such Pigs as were
here sold readily at prices that were fully

at tha close of last week.
Packers started out bidding at figures
that were quoted as a dime lower, and
as salesmen were holding their nwwerings
at steady prices very little was done until
a late hour in tne forenoon. After dick
ering until well along towards 11 o'clock
both buyers and sellers finally made some
concessions and wncn tne supply finally
started to move prices were ut'.ever and
generally 6c lower. In other words, some
hags that sold early In tho morning
looked steady to a nickel off, while oth
ers were quoted as being (VglOc lower, but
tno general iraue can lie quoted as 5c

slow till tho finish and It was late before

The Dockers wanted some good mutton
offerings this morning, consequently the
bulk of the ewes, wethers and yearlings
wero picked up first at prices generally
steady with the close of last week Soma
Mexican ewes reached $5.C5, with most of
the good ones selling at a range of 35.25

good enough to touch $6.25, and a ship
ment of yearlings was weighed up at
$6.75. Trade was fairly active and the
clearance was seasonable.
The bulk of the tra.de was in lnmha.
which were practically all on the fed
western order. At first the market was
n little stow, but later on tho movement
had a fair degree of activity, with prices
fully steady. In a few Instances trade
looked strong. The majority of the good
lambs went to the scales anywhere from
$7.4O7.80, weight and quality determining
tno price. Tne medium grades changed
hands largely from $7.25 to $7.40, with
some less desirable kinds at a range of
$7.007.2E.
