THE BKE: OMAHA, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1014 15 GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET Winter Killing of Wheat is Not Yet of Any Marked Importance. OMAHA MEN REFUSE TO SELL Present Price, LeTela of CSrnln Are Unattractive to Them rend They Will noM Offerings for Time Bring. OMAHA, Feb. 13. 1914. Tho old aaylng that "a drowning man "will grab at n straw," In being compared "With the crop outlook claims that will develop following tho growing weather ot R week or ten days neat spring, accord ing to tho Ideas ot some grain men on the Chicago Hoard of Trade. While It Is true that temperatures throughout tho winter wheat bolt havo been abnormally low, and that in some flections the plant was bare and without unow protection, the matter of winter killing will not cut much of a figure In price making, according to somo of tho best Judges of condition In tho winter Wheat belt. It Is a well known fact that ttouthwest speculators are never without am excuse to ndvanco prices at a time "when they were holders of wheat. It Is believed now that tho larger speculators at St. Louis and Kansas City are long on the May future, not only In their own market, but that they aro long at Chicago as well. Their holdings aro not heavy, but they aro blir ennueh tn Rive them an Interest In tho action of the market nnd to have them send In reports as to crop conditions present and prospective. The larger cash grain handlers In Omaha and Kansas City have refused, to ell any more wheat nt tho present price lvcl. K 5s regarded by some ns a reflection of possible crop damage losses and the fear that In case they dispose of their wheat it will be advanced sharply later In tho session. The situation In the spring wheat coun try Is said by the best people up there, to be strong. They claim that the country elevators have been pretty well cloaneU tip, and there will bo more or less trouble in securing supplies before another crop Is available. Cash wheat was unchanged to He higher. The cash demand for corn lias proved a drawback to that market, a. It has causal many of tho bulls to nwltch to the bear Bide and tho longs, to. sell out their lines aril take losses. James A'. Patten was a. rampant bull on corn dur ing tho latter part of 1913, but ho Is now of Preceding Days.
