CHICAGO, Feb. lO.-Unexpected falling off in tli J world's avallablo supply had a rallying erfect today on wheat. Clos ing prices wcro strong at an advanco of 9KH to K net. - Other speculative articles too, all showed gains corn, M; oats, to HQ-'.i, and provisions, m to 204J2214 polnU. Such a huge decrease as 6,377,000 btlsh els In the world's stock of wheat could not but encourage the bulls, especially as tho reduction at the corresponding time a ycitr ago amounted only to 1,146.000 bushels. Moreover', tho curtailment last week was relatively small as well 1.426,000 bushels. Rumors of export sales for shipment by way of the gulf added to tho stimulating influence on the bull side. The government snow map was also a disappointment for the boars Kansas, southern Illinois and south and central Indiana being unprotected and the covering In Nebraska very light. Despite a good deal of active commission buying, it was not until the last half of the session that the bulls got tho upper hand in tho wheat pit. During the earlier hours, a cable dispatch told of a pauso in the European demand and the bears were favored by warmer weather In tho domestic winter crop belt. Corn bulged on account of most re ceivers agreeing that country offerings wero ngnt. The marKot was lower at first because of film weather for shelling and hauling. Oats had Independent strength, the result of statements that most of tho 2,796.000 bushels of Canadian oats at Buffalo have been sold for ship ment to Europe. Firmness In provisions came chiefly from the fact that hog receipts fell far short of tho estimate. On the up turn, packers wero good sellers. MAIN MOVEMENT IS DOWNWARD Fluctuation of Representative Share Not Larue anil In the Late Session Improvement Is Noticed. NEW YORK, Feb. 10.-Th stock mar ket held steady today to tho approximate level of prices, which has prevailed for tho Inst fortnight. Tho public follow ing attracted by the recent advance ap peared to have fallen away and efforts of professional operators to inaugurate a movement ono way or the other whs ineffective. Today's main movement was downward nnd on tho decline somo of tho less actlvo shares broke sharply Fluctuations of the representative siocks, however, wero not largo and In tho lato session the market Improved. Tho Improved tono of the later deal ings was influenced by the United States Stsl rni'nnrntlrm'n monthly fl fill res of unfilled tonnage. The Increase of 313,000 tons In unfilled orders measured up fully with the expectations. It was the first gain In more than a year and furnished tangible evidence of reports during tho past row weens or better conditions in tho stcet trade. Taken in conjunction with the strong showing mado yesterday In tho Conner producers' report and the (decrease in idlo freight cars disclosed In tho last statement, it confirmed tho Judgment of Wall street that posltlvo Improvement in general business con ditions was at hand. Perhaps the most active lnnuence in bringing about tho early docllno In stocks was free Selllnc for foreign account. The Amsterdam market for American aecurltlfts was unset bv the recent col lapse of Rock Island stocks and collateral bonds, ami by the Bevero urop in Mer cantile Marina Issues following the de cision of the British courts yesterday against the Whit a Star line In a damage suit growing out of tho Blniclng of tho Titanic.
