Last Week' Work.
Last week's bowling wa probably the
most spectacular over witnessed In
Omaha's bowling history. League rec
ords were smashed, and high totals were
rolled early In the week, only to be
beaten later.
Last Sunday when the Bl Paxos rplled
8.1S, the highest ever rolled In the city
under the present system of weights. It
ira thought this score would stand for
several seasons. The Wroth' Cafo team
was not willing that this bo the cose.
Thursday night they toppled the pins
for a grand total of 3,123, The Met
team also came In for Its sharo ot the
honors by rolling 3.0S6 In the match
Thursday nlsht The Clara nolle also
stand high with a 3,630 team score.
Among the Individuals Captain Green i Horn
of tho El Paxos chalked up a total of ! J"1'
"04, closely followed by Hill Learn of tho uTnVrt
Ron. In three different matches ho was
welt over the COO-mark rach time, and not
one game was below 200.
Not only were the foregoing rolling
good ten pins, but other players were
piling up big scores. This Is shown by
the fact that nlno 0C0 totals wero re
corded In tho lloostor league Tuesday
night, and the Omaha leaguers went oven
Vetter with nineteen COO mnrks.
Other features of tho week were tho
defeat of tho Luxu team, which lends
tho Omaha league, by tho Old Style La
gers, nnd the defeat of tho lending Storz
Triumphs team of the (late City league
at tho hands of the Mickey Gibsons.
Several special matches wore rolled bo-
tween teams composed of tho younger
and less experienced rollers of this city.
IMim to On to HI. 1'iiul.
Willi tho International tournament at
St. Paul Just two weeks away, a few
Omaha teams aro lining themselves up to
make tho trip. It has been definitely an
nounced that tho Mctz, Wroth'a Cafe and
Stors Triumphs of Omaha, and tho Jet
tor's Old Ago ot South Omaha, will enter.
Tin Old Stylo Lagers and. tho Bl Paxos
also statnd a good show of making the
trip.
Although It has not yet been announced,
It la thought that tho Omaha teams will
roll their events February 1S-10. This Is
the first tlmo Omaha teams have taken
an active Interest In tho northern tourna
incnt, nnd It Is expected that with tho
strong lineups that will attend, that they
will bo heard from,
Every day tho local bowling supporters
are receiving literature from offlc:als
of tho American Ilowllng congress, boost
ing tho tournament to bo hold at Duffalo,
On account ot tho great distance together
with a little enmity that has sprung up
between the western bowlers and the
American Howling congress, no Omaha
team will bo seen In the big tournament

tournament was welcome news to tho
local rollers. They have been leading
the Gato City league all season and are
entitled to tho trip. Tho players on this
team aro not the best In the city, but
hey are Just good enough to tear off a
good total if they get started.
Tho El Paxos and Old Stylo Lagers arc
International tournament possibilities.
Both have been shooting good ten pins
and ought to make a good shwlng at
Minneapolis.
Thero aro now enough sharks In Omaha
to make up a big scratch tournament.
Tho way the entries aro coming Into tho
uoostcr tournament show this. About
100 first-class rollers aro entered.
Tho younger bowlers are taking more
Interest in the game this season than
over before. There aro several teams
now organized that are not Identified
with any league, but aro rolling match
games with each other.
The Gate City league seems to bo the
training school for tho Omaha league. It
has turned out Learn, R. Sclple, Terrell,
C. Johnson. Shields and a fow others.
Several Commercial league teams aro
also made up of Gate City stars.
Tho Idea that tho Booster leatrue tour
nament will In any way Interfere with a
city tournament, is all folly. Tho Booster
leaguers invited tne other leagues to take
Part and tho invitation hnm benn no.
cepted by all. If a city tournament Is held
the Booster leaguers will be found sup
porting It as well as they have their own
tournament. Tho chances for a city
tournament aro slim owlnir to a lack of
organization, and the Individuality among
mo ciijrs leagues, i'or tnis reason all
the leagues rallied to tho support of tho
uoosier league tournament,
Omaha alley managers are brnucht faca
to faco every day with a condition that
is hard to overcome. Every night the
alloys are crowded to thnlr nnnneltv with
league teams rolling their regular matches
ana many or tlio organized teams not
identified with any league find It hard
to aecuro alleys on which to roll their
special matches. With the 'number of
leagues and outside teams In the city
this season a need for moro alleys Is
seen. However, It Is a known fact that
Omaha Is not much of a Qlty for day
light bowling and as this is a big source
of revenue, alloy owners aro a little un
willing to risk tho expense of putting In
a new eet of' alleys. A few of those best
posted on bowling conditions assert that
on account of the growth of tho game
here and tho prospects for continued
growin a new set or alleys would pay.
It Is thought that before another sea
son opens a new bowling home win bo
created for the local sharks.
