CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Lake Worth Florida, OMAHA, Jan. 17. 1914. A partial change has come over the cash wheat situation In the Chicago mar ket. The recent advance In values was to tho liking of tho country holders, and the purchases by cash concerns here have been more liberal In consequence. On tho other hand, exporters, shippers and millers havo bought moro sparingly, as well as more cautiously. There were some sections of Nebraska where It was said that tho bins we,o swept clean soma time ago, but growers have been able to produce additional amounts of wheat. wmcn snows mat the producer is slow to make DUbllc the amount, nf his hold Ings. It Is believed In Board of Trade circles hero that the lmnortlncr countries will be enabled to secure considerable wheat I'lscwhcre than In Canada and the United States. This fact was clearly demon stnrtcd yesterday, when the Australian snluments wcro posted, the amount sent out of that country being 3,264,000 bushels iur mi wceK, compared Willi i,xus,uw bushels a year ago. The shipments from tho United States and Canada this week wero all old business, and the total was C.713,000 bushels, which was 300,000 bushels Mississippi. He said that never in the history ot Canada has the grain crop been as well cleaned up as at present. That tho bankers in sist on prompt disposal not only of grain, but or livo stock. These saies havo piaued Canada In good shape. The fine weather during tho fall and early winter enabled farmers to keep their plows running longer than usual, which gives assurance ot an Increase In the wheat ecreage. Another Winnipeg authority in discuss ing the removal of the duty on Canadian wneat says it Is a political question largely, and that it can hardly be done without reopening tho wholo Canadian tariff question. P. FEIL, Secretary. Omaha. Neb.. Dec 2?. 19U d-SOtolTO 'Sunday. CATTLE! As usual on a Saturday. there were no cattle worth mentioning at the yards this morning and nothing to mako a market. For the week receipts have been very liberal, the total for the six days amounting to 21,285, as against 19,693 head last week and 20,104 head a year ago. wnuo receipts of beef steers nave Deen targe, there has also been a splendid buying demand, with the result that the market gradually firmed up. and on Thursday was quoted as 10y15c higher lor the week. On Friday, which Is al most invariably an off day in the cattle traae, tne marKet was weaK to iuo lower, for tho reason that packers already had as many cattle on hand as were needed to kill out. The week's advance was the most noticeable on the good fleshy and the handy weight cornfeds. Half fat and inferior light cattle were moro or less neglected, although they sold fairly well as compared with other grades. Western steers made the same advance as corn feds and held It to the close of the week, Cows and heifers were in light supply all the week and sold at steadily strength ening prices, until at the close the mar ket was auoted lOfflGa h Kher. as cam, pared with tho finish of the previous week. Bulls and stags made practically tne same advance as cow stucr, while veal calves continued to sell at fully steady prices, Stockers and feeders were in very much better demand than has been the case during most weeks of late, and at the close were quoted as 1625c hlsher. The Improvement on cattle of that descrip tion appears to be due to the lower tendency of the corn market and the up ward tendency of the beet cattle mar ket. W I 90 1 HOQS Supplies were moderate, about 101 cars, or 7,000 head being .received. For the week the total Is 68,035, more than b.OOO head short of last week nnd nearly 2,500 head smaller than the same period n year ago. Trado opened out this morning In good shape, and values wero strong nnd higher frtom the very outset. Not much was done during the earlv rounds, as sellers were holding for still better money, but the good buying demand soon had Its Influ ence, and the supply started to move at figures that were fully 610c higher for tho best kinds and all of a nickel up on the moro common grades. On the close the demand was. If anything, bet ter than at any other time and values wound up firm and In many cases a little stronger than the early trade. Movement was fairly lively all the Way through and everything was cleaned, up at an early hourBulk of the sales was made at $8.0038.30 and best heavies reached $8.-35. the best price that has been paid this week and the extreme top for tho year to date. After a week of uneven and fluctuat ing markets today's values are around a dlmo higher than the cjose of last week. Local receipts have not been extra largo for this time of year, but conditions at the other market points were bearish during the fore part of the week and this market suffered accord ingly. During the last half of the week, however, the local demand has pushed values up until today's prices are about 10c better than a week ago. The outstand ing feature of the week's trade Is tho excellent quality of the supply and many traders express the opinion that for the whole week the supplies during the last six days are better than for any similar period this winter. Tho level ot prices was barely disturbed by today's trading in siocks. ino marKet snoweu none of the vigor of the earlier part ot the week. Reading was lorceo oown a point, but elsewhere recessions wero iiht nithniiph fnr n. tlmo there was heavy selling of tho favorite stocks. Lock of success caused the shorts to cover and partial recovery was effected. The move ment thereafter was unusually narrow with a downward tendency. It was apparent that Investment buy ing, which was an Important feature of the week's upward movement, hod sub sided.
