The stocks of No. I hard wheat at Chi cago are belnir ratilrllv roduend bv the continued buying ot that particular grade by exporters. They took 2S0.0CO bushels yesterday and. In addition to this. It was said that there were sales ot this same description to Portugal smountlng to SO, 000 bushels. Whether this latter was all irom umcago the writer was unable to learn, but It probably will go out ot that market. Interior millers were buyers ot cash wheat here yesterday, which shows that the time Is not far distant when millers In certain sections of Ohio. In diana and Illinois will be forced to come here for supplies. These conditions show a strong situation in wheat, as the cash trade is always a reflection of the market as a whole. Considerable of this grain was sold by longs yesterday In order to secure available profits, and with the In crease In offerings, the trade Is Inclined to back away from them and price reces sions result The highest levels, however, were reached at the close ot tho session, when there were net gains of HOSc A cable Was received from Uve.rnnol yesterday and credited to the Broomhall agency, saying that Canada and the united States were about to compete with Australia and Argentine wheat. Cash wheat was unchanged to Ho higher. Although the corn market was under nioro or less selling pressure at different times yesterday, the buying power over balanced this and the early low prices failed to hold. It was a market where the bulls were not afraid to absnrh thn stuff thrown Into tho pit and where the bears were slow to put out short lines even on me nignest prices. Resting spots for the day showed fractional gains, as well us to Nhow that It Is a dangerous proposition to go short' on this grain under present conditions. It Is expected that With the continuation of the present favorable weather corn will come out more freely, but there are so many holes to be filled that there will be no accumu lation In any position. Cash corn was Ho lower to lHo higher. The oats market was unsettled, with cash and futures unchanged to a free- uon tower, yet showing good reactions from bottom prices. There was more pressuro in Canadian offerings ot ar rivaln at eastern lake ports. iasn oats were unchanged. Tho buying ot hog products waa for tho purpose of reinstating Ion' lines and this, more than anything elso, caused a reaction irom the lower levels 01 tho morning, which were made on a weak hog market at the yards. The selling was largely In tho way of realizing. Clearances: Wheat and tlour. 703,000 bushels; corn, 1,000 bushels; oats, l,0uo bushels. Liverpool close: Wheat. Ud hleher: corn, K644d higher. Imlty on tho buying side today in wheat maae the traae auspicious about the ad visibility of Increasing holdings or even as to retaining what liad been acquired. Accordingly, tne market, which, had shown a gain all around, closed easy at a range varying "from HQ Via decline to a shade advance, compared with the night before. Other gcaln showed a net loss corn l-16o to Ho and oats He to 6-Wc In provisions the outcome was un changed to 15c down. Announcement tnat the Canadian premier had set December 16 as a day on which to receive grain growers and dealers who were understood to favor free wheat had considerable to do with checking bullish sentiment in the wheat pit here. Later advices that reserves of wheat in Canada were smaller than generally supposed did not greatly alter the prevalent feeling that there was need for caution In regard to investment. Heavy rain and hall damage Is said to be Interfering with the Argentine har vest were Influential In lifting the wheat market the first half of the session. Re markably low estimates on tne Argen tine exportable surplus cut a figure also against the bears, but were afterwards corrected so as to be less radical. In I h mm crowd reoorts of heavy shipments to Chicago from Illinois. Iowa and Indiana started general selling. The result waa more tnan an owei iur a. previous offset due to signs here that unttud weather was at hand. Oats followed corn, but did so more decidedly on the down turn.
