In looking over the professionals In
the wheat market yesterday the writer
was unable to find many bears. Such
en old time short and bear as John F.
Barrett, the. well known professional,
declared yesterday that he ha Joined
hands with the bulls and that he believes
prices will not only hold firm, but that
they are likely to advance. It may be
said that Mr. Barrett was the last of
the old time crowd, who have adhered
to the bear side for months and months,
to desert the bears' camp and join hands
with those who believe prices are low
enough. It la a noticeable fact that
tnose who bought wheat yesterday were
cautious, as they seem to believe the
market Is growing Into a one-sided af-
rair and that any heavy liquidation
would be likely to play havoc with
values. Tho fact that those who are
buying and selling cash wheat tn the
different positions throughout the coun
try were still unwilling to mane uiwr

as well as by Investors.
Tho situation In our own northwest, as
well as In western Canada, is becoming
more and more bullish. The best author
ities in that country, both sides of the
International line, say that wheat was
riovef as well cleaned up as at the pres
ent time. The railways have offered
amplo facilities for the movement and
the weather has been favorable almost
every day since the crop was harvested
issi summer.
There was a weather market In com,
with prices again lower and the old-time
friends of this cereal wore slow to take
hold on the buying side. Corn was under
pressure on more occasluns than one. and
It will take only a few days more favor
able weather to force farmers out of their
holdings, which Is likely to be accom
panied with price recessions.
A timmlnxnt Innir was the leading seller
of ribs and there was some selling of
lard by smaller packers. There was a

from Pit traders.

prominent speculators gave a list today
to wheat. The market closed firm. Uc to
MCHc net higher. Corn finished Irregular,
H0o lower to a like advance, and oats
the same as last night to a shade docllne.
Provisions wound up at a rise of 7H10o
to 30c
Sales to exporters were responsible for
much of the bullish sentiment regarding
wheat. One house here disposed of 250,000
bushels for Lisbon, It was said also that
Kanra's City was selling wheat back to
interior Kansas ror milling, and that Ne
braska farmers estimated 35 per cent of
the crop In their state, would be fed to
live stock.
Favorable weather for the Argentine
harvest was offset by continued advices
that the yield there was short poor, in
duality, and -of light weight. Further
more, the chances of winter killing by the
recent ireexo in me ran sown neias south
and west of Chicago were steadily kept
in mina ny traaers. on the otner hand,
bearish gossip was current that eastern
roads In the United States would loan all
tho cars required this winter to move
grain to Atlantic ports. Realizing sales
on the swells acted as an additional check
Hgalnst a more substantial upturn.

market there broke sharply and caused a

The beter grades of beef steers were
rainy active at this point and generally
steady. Good yearlings sold up as high
as .$9,06. On the other hand the less de
sirable kinds were slow to 0a lower than
yesterday.
Cows and heifers were slow all tho
morning and It was lato before a clear
ance was effected. Prices were gener
ally all of 10c lower and tn spots worso
than that.

has been very poor all the week and as
