Wheat Speculators in the Fit Desert
the Bear Camp.
ARGENTINA NEWS IS EFFECTIVE
Word from the Southern Hemis
phere Una n Tendency 'to In
fluence nnd Improve the
Trade nt Chlcnuo.
OMAHA, Nov. S6, 1913.
Many of tho larger, as well as smaller
speculators, In wheat deserted the bear
camp and inlneil Imnria with tho hulls
yesterday. Besides the advices sent out
by some of the private wire ahd other
nouses in tne trade advising caution on
the bear side, then ware many circum
stances as well as conditions surrounding
wheat that caused new buying to como
into the market. It Is generally believed
mat me ufcemoer future is controuea
by some of the strongest concerns In the
trade, and that there Is a possibility of
that option tightening up still further,
and of much higher prices being seen
later on.
While I.IvfrrwKil has refused to sympa
thise with the line of highly colored news
coming rrom the Argentine iiepuDiic
these items have stirred up considerable
excitement and have caused an Improve
ment in tho trade at Chicago ana else
where. Cable advices ot yesterday
claimed there were many crop losses In
sections of the southern hemisphere.
This was borne out by the fact that In
the extreme northern section of that
country, where the wheat is being cut.
tno yieio, as wen as tne quality, was not
up to expectations. Cash wheat was Vic
higher
Thnra was a comnleta chance In the
corn market yesterday, weakness giving
way to strength ana activity, uiosinir
prices for the day were within a small
fraction of .the highest points reached,
and showed beyond a doubt that this
market has many good and substantial
friends. There are now only SDS,00O bush
els of contract corn In Chicago, while
there Is a big open Interest In tho De
comber and more deferred months. Tho
price yesterday was helped by unsettled
weather throughout the belt and tho con
tinuation of the same Is expected. Cash
corn was unchanged to Uc higher.
rv warA frartioniiJlv higher, mainly
Jn sympathy with corn yesterday. Cash
oats were ho nigner. , ,
All markets will be closed Thanksgiv
ing day. .
Clearances were none of corn or oats
and wheat and flour equal to 845,000
bushels.
Liverpool closed unchanged to W
higher on wheat and ld lower on corn.
Primary wheat receipts were 1,600,000
bushels and shipments were 817,000 bush
ols, against receipts last year ot 1,680,000
bushels and shipments of 1,575,000 bushels.
Primary corn receipts wero 705,000 bush
els and shipments wero 754.000 bushels,
against receipts last year Of 730,000 bush
els and shipments of 393,000 bushels.
Primary oats receipts were 68S.0W bush
els and shipments were 041,000 bushels,
against recolpts last year of 724,000 bush
els and shipments of 823.000 bushels.

Prices on Board at Trade.
CHOCAaO, Nov. 26. Wheat eased off
a little today. European markets having
virtually ignored the recent advance In
fpturos on this side of the Atlantic. Lat
est prices were steady at a shade to Mo
net decline. Corn closed unchanged to
HWo lower, oats off HQc and pro
visions varying from' a setback pf 6c to
a rise of, 2Hc.
On account of the holiday tomorrow
there was not & great deal of selling
pressure in wheat. As a result values
did not recede far. Harvest advices
from Argentina were conflicting, dis
patches early in the day telling ot fa
vorable conditions, but later mentioning
.ran in tho northern districts and re
ferring ' to dread ot frost
Bullish estimates of the Russian crop
helped to sustain the wheat market here,
and so also did a report that the Euro
pean rye crop .was short 180,000,000 bush
els compared with last year's total. Mil
lers were said to be liberal buyers here.
Something of an offset, however, ap
peared in optlmlstlo views regarding the
probable yield In Australia
Wet weather hardened tno corn market.
but prices afterward sagged owing to
pit demand1 being- slack. 'Iowa farmers
Wero said to be accepting reduced fie.
urea December shorts, though, were un
easy ana covered with considerable free
dom. Discouraged speculative holders of
oats liquidated. Elevator interests picked
up most of the offerings.
Provisions tightened up after early
wrunnuBs uue to unloading oy packers
Tllgher prices for hogs wore largely re
sponsible for the rally.

NEW YORK JTOCK MARKET
Prices Drop Slightly, with Business
in Street Dull.
CONDITION OF STAGNATION
Heavy Ontllntr nf Money Cnntlnnrs,
Tilth I.nrsic Shipments nf Gold
to Cnnndn.
,NKW TORIC. Nov. 26.-Prlces droppetl
slightly today, In a dull and narrow
stock market. The upward spurt of
yesterday appeared to have exhausted the
buying power ot the market, which fell
back Into a condition of stagnation.
Money market conditions tended to re
strict speculation. The heavy outflow
of money continued with largo shipment
of gold to Canada. The amount en
gaged for the dominion today was $4,350,.
Ort), which brought up the total for tho
movement to $10,700,000, For San Fran
cisco $500,000 more was reserved, making
a total of $2,400,000. Several Influences
combined to bring about the large move
ment of gold to Canada. Heavy selling
ot Canadian grain bulls on the market,
against shipments of grain now coming
on through American ports; flotation ot
Canadian bond Issues abroad recently,
payment of the last Installment on tho
Canadian Pacific stock Issue and the In
creased gold requirement of Canadian
banks under the new banking law were
factors.
Call -money rose to 8 per cent, In re
sponse to the outward movement of
funds and preparations for Interest and
dividend payments, December 1. At the
close of November last year Call money
advanced, to 20 per cent.
Reports from tho steel trade Again
were pessimistic An estimate attributed
to an Independent steel manufacturer was
that over 50,000 steel workers had beon
laid off or wore working on short time.
8teel trade reviews were unfavorable, and
a largo shrinkage ln United States Steel s
unfilled tonnage was predicted for tho
next monthely statement. .
Bond prices were Irregular with no
ticeable pressure on United States Steel

CATTLE Receipts were Very light
today, only fifty-six cars being reported
In. As a result ot the run the 'm&rkot
was good and strong and practically
everything nt.all desirable sold at prices
a little stronger again than yesterday.
It Is earn to say that the market on kill
ing cattle Is KtfTSOc hls-hcr than the low
point last week.
win e the market at this point has
advanced sharply during the present
week, owing to lighter receipts every
where. It would bo well for the country
to Dear in mind that during tho coming
week tho bis; stock show will be held at
Chicago. The entries this year have been
very large, and if shlDDers follow the
samo policy as In recent years, the Chicago
montei win ne neaviiy suppnea witn cai
tie. It hardly ever falls that during the
live stock show at Chicago the packers
take advantage ot the big receipts to
force a sharp reduction In prices. Ship
pers should alsn bear In mind that the
recent decline In cattle nt all market
points was due almost entirely to the
fact that tho Chicago market was
flooded all during December, with the
trade ln a stato of chronlo demoralisation.
Tho weak and unsatisfactory condition
01 me i:nicago marKet gave an otner
marxeis a lower tendency, in view or
these facts It would seem to stand ship,
tiers In hand to exercise some caution in
the matter of shipments to Chicago.
