There Is a lack of export business In
our wheat, as shown by the fact that the

attracts the attention of every specu

There is a good-slsed open interest in
December wheat at Chicago, but the

CHICAGO CHAIN AND TIIOVISIONS
Features of the Trod In if and Clonlnc
I'rle'es on Hoard of Trade.
CHICAGO. Nov. 24. Wheat rose today
influenced in some .extent by a decrease
in the. visible supply. Closing figures
were steady at Ho to hia net advance.
Other grain showed a decline, compared
with Saturday night corn, KtbHo to 54W
He. and oats a shade to Hf&'Uc. In pro
visions theoutcome was3tto to 7J4 gain.
Special attention by wheat speculators
wan bIvqh to the viible supply, as the
decrease of 217,000 bushels made a decided
contrast with 3,334.000 bushels enlarge
ment at the corresponding time twelve
montns ago. xno total is now only
i.tw.wj Dusneis, more man last
more than last Year's
aggregate. It was also notntcd out that
tne Canadian visible supply had fallen
fl T r anil VtQrl t"ASArid ss u1la 1a
off and had become smaller than last
years avanaoie store.
Excessive moisture in Argentina, where
harvesting Is In progress, gave wheat
bulls the advantage from tho start. It
wan said the yield was disappointing and
that, black rust wan on the spread. Sales
ot hard winter grades here to exporters
tended likewise to discourage attempts
in the direction of forcing a downturn.
Rumors were current, too, that millers
were liberal buyers.
Corn ranged lower on account of larger
prospective receipts here. Fine weather
was predicted, a,nd advices from Mis
souri river centers told of free market
ing by farmers. Oats suffered owing to
reports of heavy Canadian shipments on
tho way to Chicago. Trading, however,
was of scanty volume.
Persistent buying on -the part of a
leading packer helped the provision mar.
ket The chief prop, though was strength
at the yards. -

Another thing that it wouia ue wen xor

be a wise plan for shippers to be very
cautious about flooding the markets with
their half fat or unfinished cattle. The
markets have been flooded with such cat

and as a- result prices have suffered .a
severe slump and many cattle sold at 0

the height ot folly to again flood the
markets at this season of the year, know

SHOULD LOOK INTO THE FUTURE
nehooTi-a lasraers of Bonds e Take
ITp Manr' Consldermtlons) and
So Provide for the Next
Generation.
An Inevitable standstill in the progress
of Omaha Is predicted by City Commis
sioner Dan B. Butler of the department
of finances and accounts, who pleads,
In "Municipal Statistics," his department
paper, for an annual levy for a bond re
demption fund to forestall the hard times
he sees ahead If the Issuance ot bonds
maturing at future dates continues.
HuUer says:
"The Issuance of bonds maturing at ft
future date Is one of the principal sources
of municipal receipts. So long as the
city .continues to grow and assessed val
uation continues to Increase thn danger
Arising from bonded Indebtedness will not
be noticeable, but the time will ulti
mately come when there wilt be an In
evitable standstill so far us actual
fcrowth Is concerned,
'And na the debts Incurred begin t
bear more Interest what will happen
This condition makes tt Incumbent
nay, almost Imperative, upon this genera
tion lo use proper Judgment and In a.
meaauro provide for the future, rather
than to leave to posterity burden too
great to be, borne, and In all probability
en-en in our own time bring about -retri
bution all along the line.
"It Is, of course, an easy matter to
issue bonds for a certain purpose, but
when the issuance ot these bonds J -for
structures that will wear out before: the
bonds mature, their Issuance should be
given more consideration.
"To avoid future danger It la Imperative)
that a certain amount be levied every
year for the bona redemption tund and
also a sufficient amount to cover Inter
est on the outstanding- obligations; thus.
Instead xif Increasing the city Indebted-
nesa (as at the present time), it wilt re-
au-e tho Indebtedness and conuequentlv
the Interest and the amount lex-led for
such purpose can be gradually de
creased." Ask Injunction to
Stop Collection of
Inheritance Tax
A new step In the fight ot George Wnr-
ren Smith, a millionaire or AOanUo
county, Tfow Jersey, to avoid a payment
of n Inheritance tax amounting to IW-
000 on Nebraska property holdings -whim
became his when Francis Smith, a
brother, died in IMS, has been taken. A
petition has been filed with the clerk nf
the district court asking that the county
of Doughui and John II. aroasraan and
Oeorgo E. Bert rand, acting as special
counsel Tor the county, be restrained by
a temporary injunction from Instituting
any action to establish a lien on -tne
property held by Smith in this county or
to collect any inheritance 'tax on it.
