Every grain on the Board of Trade
km In a position where a few sharp
twists from the bulls caused general buy
ing The markets were all short and the,
smaller professionals wore In need ot
grain When shorts attempted to even up
their position the.,offcr'ngs tightened up
and they were forced to Md up. The
undercurrent wair strong Hiv all the pits.
There was a disposition on 'the part of
the longs in wheat to secure, profl(fiand
the selling from that source' caused some
recessions fromt the highest levwsv The
corn was well taken core of and the buy

during the session.
While the news from the wheat fields
of India was only a repetition .or that
which has been" received for several days
past, It was gulped down and, acted 'Upon,
as the principal bull help. A special Cable l

In India and under ordinary 'conditions'
this would haVe been offset by-the-lm-'
proved crop outlook in Argentina, where

few dsrs.
The wheat market stood up under con
siderable adverse mows. The publication
by the Dally Trade Bulletin of an In
crease In the winter wheat acreage of
31.3 per oent over last Year, which woglrt
make the area seeded the largest ort
record, received a good deal ot attention
and won doubtless a hindrance to a fur
ther upturn.
Tho fact that Argentine shipments for
the week are estimated at 409.000 bushels,
nearly double the shipments of the pre
vious week, was looked upon bb a re
flection of the Improved conditions sur
loundlng the plant In that country, Kan
ras City and St. Louts are said to have
no outlet for their wheat at the present,
and practically with the hard winter va
riety and the receipts at those points
Jointly yesterday was 183,000 bushels,
compared with 233,000 for the correspond
ing day last year.
Cash wheat was unchanged to Uc

The literary bureau of the corn bears
was active in distributing Items favor

deal of talk was Indulged In over the
Increased offerings of Argentine corn,
but In, spite of this thero were net gains
of He (o ?c for the day.
Cash corn was He, to He higher.
Oats showed gains of 9ie yesterday, sur
prising many In the trade, who believed
prices would sell much lower.

NKW YOUK, Nov. 7.-Dun's Review
tomorrow will say:
Irregularities Is one of the chief chaxae
torlstlcs of tho business situation, but
there ts little evidence of n general re
action. In certain lines and sections of
the country the volume of trado Is ex
pandlng, with gains recorded over last
,ear In some Instances.
Lower temperature throughout a con
slderablo area have had the otfect of
stimulating tho demand for seasonable
merchandise and It la significant that
prompt deliveries ana strongly urged,
thus emphasising tho depleted .condition
ot wholesale and retail stocks.
Transactions In the dry goods market
havo shown a noticeable Increase In some
quarters, having been heavier than at
any time In the laat three yea,rs and
values continue firm.
Failures this week numbered 3U In the
1 nuea. stairs, against ZM last year, and
41 In Canada, compared with 25 a year
ago.
