The story told by the survivors of the
Annlo M. Parker's crow solves the mys
tery as to why a vessel apparently sea
wot thy and safe had been abandoned.
The men of the Annie Parker were
brought hero by the lumber schooner
Ttfton from Jacksonville, which picked
them up In dories thirty miles off Nan
tucket Sunday morning after they had
been adrift In small boats for twenty
four houra without food or tiring. They
reported that Beuben Kennedy, the cook,
had been swept overboard from a dory
and drowned and that Captain Vincent
Nelson and three of th,elr mates prob
ably had been lost.
The men missing besides Captain Nel

Henry Nelson of Beverly, son of thj
captain, was left behind on the Boston
fishing schooner Jotle and Phoebe, ex
hausted from his experience, but hoping
to find trace of his father,
Until thev reached here they were
Ignorant that they had abandoned their
vessel unnecessarily and that the loss of
llfo might havo bten avoldea.
They reported that the Annie M.
rarker, bound home from the fishing
grounds oft New Koundland with a full
catch, waa driven off Its course by ad
verse winds and went aground on the
Boso and Crown shoals off the Nantucket
coast Saturday morning.
The vessel was being pounded by heavy
seas and the crew agreed with Captain
Nelson that their only hope of safety
lay In getting clear of the craft. So they
abandoned t. Kvldently the vessel later
worked off the shoal In deep water and
drifted nndnmagtd to where It was
picked up.
